MMA Fighter Reportedly Fights Off 4 Gang Members in Home Invasion, Killing 1 | Bleacher Report

The incident happened in the early morning hours of New Year's Day, according to James Staley of the Las Cruces Sun-News. Four men invaded Torrez's home, and two of them had weapons; one of the men had a sharp wooden shank, while the other grabbed a knife from the kitchen.

Torrez fought the attackers, severely injuring one and killing another. The other two men ran away. He was at home with his two-year-old son, his fiancee, her sister and another woman at the time of the invasion.
McElhinney said that the four men who invaded the Torrez home were associated with the East Side Locos gang and have prior convictions for violent crimes. Now, Torrez and his family have left Las Cruces.

When I saw Torrez, I was hoping it was going to be Miguel... I wonder if the robbers saw his fight record, and thought he was easy pickins?

how can you charge him, for defending himself with his hands against armed men? with a child in the house as well? even if he killed a guy.

FYI, league says it's only for 10 events? Is that accurate?
Yeah what Grimm said. I figured I would set it up for 10, and then if we like it we can recreate it, or maybe I can even see if there is a way to extend it.

There are reports the dead guy was outside the house. Regardless, I doubt a jury would convict the guy even if he was charged, considering the circumstances.

Care to expand on what that is? I don't think I have ever watched a WWE event, so not sure how they do it.

From what I understand, the WWE is starting up a subscription based service that allows users full access to their old film and specials and what not. Also I think with a minimum 6 month sub you get the PPVs for free too, but I may be wrong on that last part.

You are right. $60 for 6 months and you get all the PPV's included plus the old stuff and some other special programs they are working on. One of them is a reality show with some old guys in it.

$120 a year for all UFC content, including all PPV. That is something I may actually be willing to do and not have to worry about finding a real good HQ stream.

Yup, you can access it from android, apple, xbox, ps3/4, roku and other things as well, I forget it all. I really hope it takes off and we see others start moving towards it.

The WWE is hoping to be able to up their TV rights money right now to offset their losses on PPV. If they can do that you may see the UFC do the same though if the WWE can't you won't see the UFC change tactics. Even if the WWE is able to do it the UFC can't till contract time with their Cable/TV providers aka Fox. Fight Pass will remain neutered for the time being.

Directv issued a statement saying they might pull the WWE PPV"s but they won't do it. It's free money for them really. WWE only gets like $25 from a PPV and Directv pockets the rest. It would be very stupid of them to pull the PPV's and piss off their customers too. If they did do it they would push their customer's to other providers which they can't afford to do. It's a major reason why they've held on and paid for NFL Sunday Ticket exclusivity for so long.

It's going to be a profitable model even if television providers don't hop on board, so many more people will sub to this that couldn't afford $50 and $60 ppv's. I think they said they need a million subs for it to bring in a profit which they will get with no problem. Honestly I applaud WWE for the change, they were the company that made ppv a real thing and I'm sure the model was a hard thing for them to transition to. I hope it catches fire.

The UFC has so many PPV events per year now, that I don't see how they can expect fans to pay $50-$60 every time. And I would wager that is why so many people stream the fights. I know when it used to be only a handful PPV events per year I always bought them. It's just with the sheer amount of PPV's they have, coupled with the fact that you just never know when you will get a shitty card, makes it impossible to want to pay for every one. However, a flat rate like that for all year, absolutely.

I know I stream fights because I'm cheap and it's so easy. If you streamed UFC 168 (one of the best cards of the year from a big fight perspective) then you'd probably stream anything.

I think the UFC wants to have an army of lower shows on a huge variety of networks and media and have them all lead up to a handful of big PPVs a year. One thing I've always thought would help the UFC maintain a PPV following is if they had PPV at set times throughout the year. Ex: One PPV a month on the first saturday of the month. That was people can arrange their schedule around it and know when it's going to be.

Remember to get picks in for the next event, it's happening on Wednesday night. Caught me by surprise a little bit, even though I remembered the date being the 15th it didn't register with me that it wasn't a Saturday.
