I didn't see the full episode so I must have missed the joke.

I am rapidly becoming disinterested in this show. Beyond them using the rankings for setting up the fights, the season sucks.

Swanson vs Edgar announced for Nov 22 card. Ruining Cub's title shot and shit yo :\
Or clinching it if he wins!!!

God I hope he wins. 10-3 since 2008 and won 6 in a row. And those 3 losses were to the champion(DOUBLE FLYING KNEE!), and 2 "recent" challengers in Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas. Plus he's really awesome to watch, technical and ruthless. Constantly improving, he's only 30, a fact that never ceases to stun me.

Of course they're all just keeping the throne warm for the king!

Didn't realize how stacked the UFC 178 card actually is til I checked out the undercard. Should be some good fights this weekend. I figured Dominick Cruz would come back and get least get on a PPV. Definitely didn't expect to see him on the prelims even though he's the last fight.

Hasn't fought in 3 years and he's been moved down 12 ranked spots without losing a single fight. He's probably going to be stiff/nervous/amped as fuck and might blow the fight, probably why they put him there.

People really need to get over the main prelim spot. Every single PPV prelim that spot features someone that "SHOULD BE ON THE PPV!".

It's bonus exposure for those guys. The last prelim spot gets a lot more viewers than the first 1-2 PPV slots. Last fight on the prelims is not a punishment, it's a favor for someone that would otherwise be lower on the PPV card than they probably "should" be.

Yes and... if you have ever been to a live event, you know that the production really kicks into gear for the last fight before the ppv starts. It can be hard to tell when you are just viewing it on TV, but they get the crowd rocking, they do the prolonged walk outs and Buffer amps up the intros. It really is the 2nd or 3rd most prestigious fight on any card and gets 5 times the viewers the PPV probably will get.

Yep, people just get hung up on the idea that the PPV card is instantly the prestige spot. It makes some sense in theory, but in practice it's just inaccurate internet rage.

edit: To be clear, Calhoon is not raging or anything=P But he brought it up and it's a really common subject leading up to many PPV's so it was worth addressing.

Also doesn't the last match of the PPV stand the greatest chance of getting re-broadcast on the PPV itself if the main card fights are finished too quick and they need to cover time?

Actually they probably just pick whatever best fills the time they need to fill.

I suppose if it's close time-wise between two fill in fights they might go with the bigger name match. I guess the more exciting fight would probably take precedent though in that case.
