To make this more interesting for some, could you please give a description of what Amod's job looks like? What's expected? How much time? What if you're going on vacation for three weeks and won't be around? What level of responsibility are you expected to take on? How good are the lunches in the Amod lunch room? Are Soygen's handies as good as legend would have it?

Seriously, though. What are you expecting of people who want to be mods?

The job is long and hard. Several times a day you must ninja edit posts you don't agree with. Then, at least once per week you must report a user for plots against the Great Leader. Reeductation camp is held every July and the moderators must attend via Skype with the appropriate royal blue fez. Besides this, you must never make your presence known. Live in the shadows and disappear into the mists.

Royal blue is really not my color. Could I wear an indigo fez?

I can tell you my experience. Most of the time it's very quiet. Things seem to come in waves, if you're active in the really shitty threads here (gamer gate, politics) you probably have some idea when a bunch of shit posting occurs. At that point reported posts start flying in.

A lot of reported posts are just people being pussies. Generally I'll read each report and either decide to do nothing (usual) or do something. If I do something I'll post what I did. A lot of times we aren't sure what to do so we start a discussion in the thread.

If we infract someone a new th read is created and people either accept it or we discuss it if there's a problem.

That's like 95%of the job.

The other 5% is doing stuff for people like thread title changes or whatever. Janitor work.

There aren't a whole lot of clear set of defined rules, so there's a bit of discretion involved, and since we're just a bunch of real people mistakes happen. You have to have thick skin or you'll get eaten up by the people.

I did a lot of modding when it was busy simply because I'm always at a computer with my phone on so I was always there. A bit less now but it's been slow. I wouldn't worry too much about taking a vacation, it's not like we work in shifts and rhe forum will fall apart - however ideal candidates would probably need to be fairly active.

Just my 2 cents on how I've rolled. Being a mod was a surprise for me and the only rules they gave me were don't break anything, don't delete posts, and don't merge threads.

Utnayan is it true that after years of bashing and ridiculing Elder Scrolls online you bought the game on release?

How can we trust a flipflopper to keep our forum users safe?
I honored a time and true tradition bet. So as you can see, even the worst game on the history of the planet wasn't enough to not honor my blood bound bets laced with utnayan's trust. If you can't trust that, you can't trust anything.

I'll also detect all viral marketing accounts and stop them dead in their tracks to maintain site integrity. The honor of all of us is at stake. Do the right thing a_skeleton_02. Vote Utnayan in 2016.

Royal, which seat do you want? The mod team needs a pornstrodamus in it's ranks.

Ummm... Is this not the page where we can ask questions abut the election process?

So if someone gets nominated by someone else, don't they have to make a candidacy speech before they're in the running?
At least, does the nominated party even have to acknowledge and accept their nomination before they are considered in the running? This needs to be cleared up!

This is actually helpful. Didn't make me want to be Amod any more than I did, but helped me to understand you folks.

It's not a hard job but it is a thankless job. Very rarely is the entire board "on board" with the decision you make - except when I banned Tanoomba that one time. There was much rejoicing.

Here's what we're going to do. There are three inactive mods for the most part, and I would be grateful for additional help in keeping the ship on course here. If you are interested in actually helping the community please put your name in the hat and I'll consider your interest. Then once all the names are accumulated, if there are more than three, we'll have a vote for them and we can get some voting specialists here to run the vote. If there are enough we can do something like folks have done in screenshots.

If you want to be a mod these are your duties:
1) Give people asking for access, access from the Waiting Room (If you've had an account here for long than 8ish months, you don't even see this forum). Dozens or so per week sometimes. Usually takes a few minutes to go through.
2) Respond to reports which are typically gore or nsfw material in the wrong places.
3) Keep people from shitposting all over the place while being somewhat lenient on letting people go at each other. Typically this is the usual suspects that you all know and love.
4) Cleaning up spam bots.
5) Continuous discussion with the other mods about the direction of the community, and discuss any infractions that are in place. Usually this constitutes to respond to a few posts a week based on any infractions. It's really no big deal and by "direction of the community" I mean, should we really let kegkilla call everyone a faggot in every one of his posts and not infract him, or should he be RRPd for a week because he won't stop shitposting in the Star Wars thread after many warnings?

The people who can be mods are people that I can trust not to fuck shit up and are actually responsible members of this community. So if you have a history of being a racist piece of shit and a hateful troll you basically shouldn't apply.

Carry on.

Honestly when Tuco made hodj a mod as a joke, the guy seemed to do a pretty good job and even when he had one of his episodes I don't believe he abused his mod powers. He seems like an obvious choice.

I actually thought hodj did a decent job as a moderator until he started infracting people he was arguing with. I wasn't the one who de-modded him though.
