Never played MH games and I don't have a lot of playtime so I'd probably be solo 100% of the time. Any worth in me buying this? I play maybe 3-4 hours a week if I'm lucky. I work 3 jobs, go to school, and spend another 8 hours in the gym a week while living on my own so my free time is... basically nonexistent. I'm just getting around to finishing Witcher 3, for reference.
Yes totally worth getting. I play solo and am doing fine and having a blast. Limited hours to play in a week too (Dads of MHW unite)

Its worth it if fighting giant FUCKING AWESOME monsters is your thing. Story is so-so but its all broken down into "missions" more or less usually with a 50min time limit for completion per mission so its easy to break away when needed.

It sounds up my alley. My favorite games recently on PS4 have been Bloodborne, DS3, TW3, and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Sadly I've never bought any DLC for any of the above games, and I feel like I should.

Anyway, may pick this and Shadow of the Colossus up.

As a completely new PS4 and MH4 owner its a fucking awesome game. I was very intimidated at first at the learning curve but its fun to take it all in. If you played Horizon Zero Dawn its combat is going to be a lot like that style. You dodge a lot and then time your attacks in between the monsters huge abilities. Shameful I spent so long without a PS4 is all ive thought since playing this.

Now I just need to figure out how to join your guys worlds or groups, I signed up for PSN but need to read into joining others sessions.

So I see a lot of bow players (I think I'm settling on this as a primary). So are people upgrading bows (or any weapon quite frankly) of each element type as they go, or are they settling on 1 or 2 that they use for all content. I love the game and the grind overall is fine, but keeping up 4-5 bows doesn't sound appealing in the long run.
That was my thought as well early on, but now as I've progessed, it really isn't hard to make various bows. Yet, that also had me go out and complete various Armor sets which buff those elements. Can't really tell if the elemental dmg is great or not. Biggest impact on dmg I've seen so far as been if the Food buffs proc for you or not. My main bow is the Pulsar 3, since it offers Thunder element while also have Affinty and has the highest base dmg I can get right now. Also have a Fire, Ice and Dragon bow.

Quick question about Buffs. Aside from the ones you get from eating at the Canteen, are there other craftable buffs that will last 30min or longer?

I believe demondrug/skins lasts until death but don't stack with canteen. Most of the pills are like less than a minute, seeds are a couple of minutes, but they stack.

Any tips for the insect glaive? Like it a lot toying around in the training area. Playing solo so far, but once I get a good feeling for the game I'll reactivate my ps+. This is my first Monster Hunter and feels a bit overwhelmed

I recommend YouTubing GaijinHunter and watching his videos. He has tutorials for most weapons and they are pretty useful to get started.

So I can craft some Zorah Beta gloves, and they have a skill called "Free Elem / Ammo Up". The Free Element skill says that it will unlock a weapons "hidden" element... I've yet to see a weapon with a greyed out element. Like all the Bows I use have an element, in fact ALL the bows in all the trees that have an element do not show them as being greyed out or in parentheses. The info I've found so far says that the skill will not add an element, just unlock an existing one. So... is this skill pointless?

Edit: Ah, nevermind, I see how it works. If the base weapon has an element, the skill isn't needed. But if the base weapon doesn't have an element, but gets on further down the upgrade path, then the Free Element skill is needed to unlock it. Example, the Ore Bow has no element to start with, but at Rarity 5 it gains Thunder, but its locked.

Is there any way to force a particular investigation? I need some Tobi-kadachi parts but that fucker is a rare spawn if you don't have an investigation, and of course I have none for it.

Or at least a way to cycle ancient forest quickly so that one spawns ..?

Can't you just repeat quests? I remember farming Anjanath by going back to optional quests I had already completed and doing them again. I'm sure there's an optional quest for Tobi.

Yeah, now that you mention it I guess I could have done that but I forgot those optionals were there. I ended up getting the investigation finally while farming Anj investigations. Might have been a bit slower to start but having gold tier investigation rewards pays off in the end. Especially if you need plates from Anj.

Really loving this game even tho work has taken my time up.

Loving charge blade, heard it was hard as fuck to use so naturally the weapon I must have. Love the playstyle.

My guy looks like Pantheon from League if he had swallowed the ooze that super shredder did. I also love my Donnie Darko bunny of death.

Every time I think this game is winding up, bam, here's another shitload of content to do. I'm starting to wonder how far through I actually am.

So. Outside of the fetch quests for the kitchen. If you collect X ingredient does it go to the kitchen? Or does the fetch quest mean that the kitchen always has that ingredient? Because you can still collect them when you're out and about and they seem to have various high or low quality versions.

What does this do?

Unlocking more ingredients increases the amount of ones that can be "fresh" every day. The fetch quest ingredients are separate from the gathering point ingredients. At some point you will have enough that the Chef's Choice Platter will be giving you +50/+50 on the HP/Stam every time (Chef's Choice always picks whats fresh that cycle, the other platters are fixed ingredients). Whats scary is if you go to create a custom platter, you can see that there are actually 36 different meat/fish/vegetables available to unlock (and 12(?) drinks once you get that far). I am not sure there is any reason to have all of the ingredients outside of being a completionist.

Each food/drink item has a different skill available to it.

God damn. That on top of all the Endemic Creatures. I have been looking for some but some have retarded requirements to find. Like only spawning at a certain system time OR a certain game day time in a certain spot before they poof.

Since I am probably going for the long haul and going Platinum this game. Lets do it.
