WotC/Hasbro is in an unwinnable position.
They can do things that bring in more revenue and/or new players, pissing off older players (who generally don't buy new product anyway) and people who feel they're being bilked.
Or they can not do those things, and people will claim the game is dying because profits are down.
There is nothing WotC can do that will not piss of a huge section of the playerbase in some way, and every possible outcome of any decision will always cause a big section of the playerbase to yell "I told you so!"
Going for maximum revenue is always going to be the best strategy because as long as the game continues making money, you at least get the opportunity to stay alive to keep making new mistakes in the future.
Aside, I haven't given WotC a dime in >5 years and I still get to play MTGA for free forever because of my limited win rate and resulting wildcard situation. It is the best possible F2P arrangement for me.
Jesus. In case anyone had any doubts that Magic is actually gonna die:
Boxes contain less packs now, and don't break evenly for drafts anymore because...fuck you pay us?
WotC Shrinks Booster Boxes From 36 to 30 Packs Per Box - Draftsim
Starting with Aetherdrift, Play Booster Boxes will only contain 30 Play Boosters packs, rather than the typical 36 packs per box.draftsim.com
The modern tournament at the upcoming Magic Fest (that costs 150$ to enter between an event badge and the tournament buy-in) contains a uh...i don't even know what to call this? Just literally shout 'IM A PAY PIG' at the top of your lungs and a judge comes and gives you a commander deck to play in the middle of your modern event?

I read the rules and that sounds like a fun goofy side event that mashes up Modern with Planechase. Not sure what the issue is if everyone involved is onboard? You don't pay any extra money aside from the entry fee.
True. I only even play legacy with friends and kids. Cause I like using all my cards lolI read the rules and that sounds like a fun goofy side event that mashes up Modern with Planechase. How many people in this thread actually play Magic in any recognizable contemporary format? How many people ever played it seriously or semi-seriously at any point after 6th edition? 10th edition?
I agree. At this point, why not?I can totally see them reprinting reserved list cards now as a last ditch effort.
If anything, I think you'd see them reprint the original duals first. You have to figure there's always a couple of suits pushing to throw the reserved list in the garbage.
I have a full (40) SP/NM playset and having $15-$20k of value evaporate would anger me and a lot of other people. If anything, I think you'd see them reprint the original duals first.
