I was also in Catholic school and I recall a classmate who would bring his porno mags to school in those old school yellow folders with random sports on the front. At recess there would be a swarm of us around him checking it out. We never did get caught. Yard duty ladies were negligent back in them days.

Alien is still probably the most scary movie experience I ever had as a kid
Poltergeist when I was 5. I feel like that's probably the closest in his adult life my dad ever came to being violent with a woman, needless to say I never went back to that babysitter. I've never really had any tolerance for horror movies even as a teen but it's hard to say whether that's related to seeing that so young or just from my obsessive nature magnifying the horror too much. I let myself get peer pressured into watching Evil Dead (the actual horror movie first one, not the dark comedy followups) during a sleepover when I was 14 and I ended up vomiting constantly and completely unable to sleep for days, and while that almost certainly was due to a stomach bug my mind associated it with watching horror movies and I've avoided them like the plague ever since.

I saw the original "The Shining" when I was quite young.

I woke up the next day with vomiting. Put me off horror films for years too. And I haven't actually seen The shining again since

Yeah, the first two poltergeists are pretty scary if you're young. I know the clown scene in the first one was the scene my stepmom always said creeped her out even when she was older.

Was talking with a neighbor about this topic yesterday, and he brought up the 70s remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. He was totally right. I haven't seen that film in years, but it's pretty damn scary.

its a good movie, you got Sutherland, Goldblum, Spock as a bad guy and some chick walking around with her titties out.

Address remember there being just as underlying sense of dread throughout the entire film, and the ending obviously is pretty frightening the first time you see it. Number one most horror movies back then used to end that type of way, I'm sure you know what I mean, don't want to spoil it for anybody that might decide to go and watch it.

If you're out there and have never seen the 70s body snatcher film it's totally worth your time. That's how movies used to be made. You will not be disappointed.

Funny thing is it was years before I could finally force myself to watch Army of Darkness and yes the movie is funny as fuck but the deadites still get right under my skin. I'd be down to crack open a couple beers with the Angry Molesting Tree though. Now there is something I really shouldn't have seen as a 14 year old.

I've actually let myself get pressured into watching 'horror' movies two other times since then, once was Freddy v Jason and it was absolutely hysterical (which I think was sort of the point) and the first Saw which I thought was one of the most brilliant movies I've ever seen which partially made up for not getting laid like I had expected to. I won't touch any of the pathetic torture porn sequels though.

The Saw movies with maybe the first one being somewhat original, I couldn't tell you anything and past maybe the second one and I don't even remember it the first two.

Army of darkness though, that movie is wonderful and fun, and you can typically show it to somebody who has no idea about it, and you don't need to see the previous films, and they will always have a fun time. I remember seeing the original trailers back in the early 90s and it actually had Metallica's holier than thou song spiced over it. I guess they bought the rights the trailer, and it's the only time I've ever heard that song in any sort of film. I know because the Black album had come out and my buddies and I were listening to it Non-Stop, and when I saw the trailer I was like holy hell that's Metallica!

Also, Freddy versus Jason was a wonderful comedic, cinematic experience. I just remember Freddy saying man the torpedoes, I'm shooting air canisters at Jason. For whatever reason Robert Englund delivered it so perfectly, because at that time period he knew that role inside and out, and what made it entertaining.

Maybe at the end of the day you just got to get together with a bunch of buddies, barbecue, nice cold beer, and fire up some classics, even if it's something that creeps you out. I know we all grew up differently, but doesn't mean you can't learn to appreciate good movies back when, well, good movies were made...👍🏻

the Freddy and Jason movies all became self parody. Freddy V Jason is a classic, but, man Jason X is fucking hilarious.

There was only the one Freddy and Jason movie, but it was awesome. I actually saw it as well as Jason X in space in the theaters back in college. Pure amazing schlock.

Haha, go back a couple of pages and get to the root of this whole conversation or derail. Chukzombi Chukzombi and I pretty much talked about all of the movies you're mentioning.

With that being said, Alien is still probably the most scary movie experience I ever had as a kid.
I saw Lifeforce at a drive-in when I was way too young. My parents probably thought I was asleep. I was definitely not.

That movie was fucked.

Haha, I saw Lifeforce on HBO as a kid. Think my parents were out and we had a babysitter that let me watch it. I rewatched earlier this year, and it's still a fun movie, even if some of the effects don't quite hold up. The main theme music is some of my favorite in a film to this day.
