Loss for fans though. I don't want to see a player get a 4 game suspension for a DUI or some shit..
No one cares about DUI's, not a single thing in the media that is negative is DUI or DUI related. Sorry you can't beat you wife and kids. No one gives a shit about driving fucked up....driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence are supposed to be crimes yet every bar in America has a parking lot full of cars even the ones at the sports stadiums.

I'm pretty sure the league cares about DUI's. See: Smith, Aldon.
I understand the "league" has to "act" like they give a shit about these matters but society as a whole gives not a single fuck. Not 1 sponsor will pull their $ over shit like that. Jim Irsay was arrested driving while fucked up on alcohol, oxycodone, and hydrocodone....lets see how high the NFL's morale highground is!

Well Irsay finally did get a suspension. The thing is thatright nowa DUI would get more attention than usual because its a feeding frenzy in the media. Normally there's been a lot of them go by with little to no reaction, even with a manslaughter! But players do get disciplined for it.

They fined him half a million bucks and suspended him somehow, didn't they? I don't remember the specifics off the top of my head but it was the most severe penalty the league ever handed out.

It is a fine balance between making money and enforcing morality for the NFL, but in the end, the money always wins, as it does damn near everywhere else.

Half a million bucks to a billionare, I'm not sure how he can keep on living under those circumstances, he might as well commit suicide, life as he knows it is over.

Loss for fans though. I don't want to see a player get a 4 game suspension for a DUI or some shit. Frankly, I don't care what these guys do in their spare time. I do agree with heinous shit like what Ray Rice getting punished by the league, but for the most part I'd rather have the court system handle it. That's just not realistic now though unfortunately. It's all about the money and how much they stand to lose from corporate sponsors.
Courts don't handle it though. They are celebrities and get coddled as evidenced by what happened with Rice.

Its really not that uncommon, he had no prior record. New Jersey uses that pre-trial intervention stuff all the time. If he had done it in Maryland all that they would have had to do is show up to court and have Janay refuse to testify against him and he'd be off the hook. Happens all the time here no matter how poor you are, its referred to as spousal immunity or spousal privilege. But if you get charged with domestic assault against her again the State can go after you and the spouse can't get you off the hook. Tons of people get away with a slap on the wrist for hitting their wives across the country every day. If being an athlete was such a get out of jail free card he'd have never been charged in the first place.

Ok, but in general people who get in a fight with their wife and have no record get probation before judgment all the time, which is essentially what PTI in NJ amounts to in the long run. Its not coddling, its pretty much business as usual.

I guess you can call knocking your girlfriend unconscious a fight, this is the real argument, not that he physically assaulted her. O'h yea after spitting on her repeatedly.

You are right, but still, they at least tried to penalize him in some way. What do you think the appropriate penalty would have been? This is something that the court will give you a $300 fine for in my state at least for a first time offense.

They can't fine him 3 billion dollars and force him to sell the team, I wouldn't think.

Umm how about losing draft picks or loss of cap room, you know things that would have really mattered a billionare owner, things that affected the bottom line of a franchise. Trickle down effect....

So you want to punish a franchise over one person? What if I took part of your paycheck or vacation time or something to that degree for something your boss did?

Well fuck yes when that one person is the franchise, sorry you don't get the same punishment as the guy scrubbing the toilets when you cut the checks. Stop living in your plastic bubble!

I suppose but I still don't agree. I feel the players are more of the franchise than he is but I suppose to each his own.
