Well, holding them to a field goal was a pretty big deal, but I think they still have to go for 2 if they score a TD because that would mean they only need a FG to tie.

No I understand the reason and the rule its just stupid. If he some how didn't get his knees down on the ground could he have gotten up and run? Of course not because he was down.


Also Smith is closer to the playoffs than the 49ers so not throwing stones at your betters.

Uh, if he got up without a knee or elbow touching the ground, no, he wouldn't have been down. There have been big plays where the ball carrier rolled over a defender but never went down. They're rare because it's hard to get back up without putting a knee or elbow down, but it happens.
