The Cowboys are contenders, but there's still that little guy in the back of my head going "Romo will fuck it up."
This. Romo is playing better than he ever has. His "ROMOing" is down to career lows. The cowboys have an awesome run game, great o-line, and a defense playing much more consistently than it has any reason too. And yet, in the back of my head there is still a little voice reminding me "Romo, Cowboys, playoffs".....

I wish that meme would just die. But I guess when you start your career with what happened in Seattle in 2006 and in the Division game in 2007 against the Giants, it's bound to haunt you. He didn't do himself any favors the next few years either. But by and large it's the team around him that has fallen face down. The credit always goes to the QB, win or lose, but when your only real weaponisyour QB, then you can only ask him to bail you out so many times before things take a turn for the worse, which is what's been happening since their last trip to the postseason.

The new emphasis on the running game has done a lot to take the pressure off Romo for him to be the savior. Colts were stacking 8 in the box almost the entire game and he made them pay for it over and over again. Eagles did the same thing. The narrative surrounding Romo is that he's not a big game QB. That couldn't be further from the truth. The truth is that this hasn't been a big game team. Romo has shown up over and over again. This year, the rest of the team decided to show up as well.

As for the playoffs, just crown the Seahawks now.
Pretty much. The Panthers have played much better defensively at home this year, so it's very likely that they beat the Cards (even if Stanton comes back). Which means the Panthers get fucking annihilated in the divisional round and the Seahawks likely meet the Packers/Cowboys in the NFC Championship. We already saw what Green Bay is capable of up there and Dallas beat a hobbled Wagner/Maxwell/Chancellor.

Its the perfect time to go full Romo.

One would think that a game with #1 or 2 seed ramifications would be more interesting than a "who gets the last wild card spot" game with one team that is guaranteed to play horrifically.
That's where you would be wrong. It's much more interesting to watch the bungles miss the playoffs than who gets a better seed.

So what is the tie breaker used for the number 2 seed that prevents Dallas from taking it over Seattle? Is head to head not the first metric?

If it's just Seattle vs Dallas then Dallas gets it. When there's more than 2 teams you get into a paper-rock-scissor situation.

Dallas owns the tiebreaker vs Seattle, but the Cardinals and NFC North teams have it over Dallas. So Dallas needs the NFC North to get the #1 seed and Seattle to win NFC West

If Green Bay, Dallas, and Seattle win, they all have the same record:

1st Seed - Seattle
NFC West Champ
Wins tie break over Dallas and Green Bay based on best win percentage in conference games.

And if they meet again, I have to think that'll be an added bit of motivation to the Cowboys. Plus, as much as that stadium gives people fits, in the playoffs last year they were well off the decibel mark from the regular season, a byproduct of the more expensive playoff tickets putting it out of reach for most of the tried and true fans. At any rate, Cowboys did a lot in that game to allow Seattle to hang in there, and with some of the missing pieces being back on that defense it certainly won't be an easy matchup if that's what it comes down to.

I expect Arizona to lose next week. I believe Dallas was the last team to play Seattle and actually win the following week, and frankly, Arizona isn't going to get it done with their best QBs on the sideline.

Seattle winning is a tossup. Fischer is the ultimate troll and I think him and his team would take something of a perverse pleasure in denying them homefield advantage. If that happens then...

... Lions or GB have homefield. Lions haven't won in GB since before Favre played for them and while they've been winning, nothing about how they've been playing should give anyone confidence on them breaking that streak.

If I'm Garrett I continue to the put the pedal to the floor. The seeding won't shake out until the afternoon games are done anyway and even an outside chance at a bye is worth playing for. I'm sure many on the team would like to see Murrey get the Cowboys rushing record so at the least I would expect to see him out there for the first half of the game or until the record is in hand, whichever happens first. I think Romo stays out there only so long as the Redskins aren't on a "kill Romo" mission. He'll get pulled the first time that becomes apparent.

All that said, I think it'll end up being #1 Seattle, #2 GB, #3 Dallas, #4 Atlanta, #5 Arizona, #6 Detroit. Dallas beats Detroit, Atlanta beats Arizona. Seattle beats Atlanta, Dallas beats GB. Tossup on the Seattle vs Dallas rematch.

I think the Falcons defense is so bad that whoever AZ plays at QB could beat them.

I agree with that, but I kind of doubt Dallas beats GB in GB. Packers have been ridiculous at home, except for the Jets game, and their recent games have more to do with McCarthy not trying to show his hand before the playoffs than the offense slowing down. Pretty much everyone in the league has been playing with a clenched asshole the last couple weeks to limit how much tape people have on them. Plus Romo with a bad back in the cold vs an entirely healthy Packers Roster with an extra week of rest? Homer or not, I don't see that happening, unless Garrett actually sticks with the run all day long even if they get behind. Of course the Pack will just end up getting destroyed in Seattle anyhow, since we can't figure out how to stop a running QB and suck when we cannot audible reliably.

Cowboys can beat a great QB by keeping him off the field, and the run game should travel to Lambeau. I'd still give the edge to Green Bay but it's not impossible - if you can win in Seattle you can win anywhere.

The "Oh, but it's so coooooold!" trope is so over-hyped. A Colin Kaepernick led 49ers beat the Packers there in one of the coldest games in playoff history. The weather affects Green Bay just as much as it affects an away team. Nobody likes playing in that shit.
