Yes, in part anyways. Some of it also was the teams being sick of handing out giant rookie contracts, but that change had to be sold to the PA and it was done so under the theory that the cash would filter to veterans instead.

Perfect example is look at what has happened to RB's. C.J. lost $13.5 mil and now is barely making more than a punter. As it stands, compare the top-8 free agent RBs compared to the top 8 free agent kickers, and the kickers are making more than the RBs. Again, there is much more to the issue than just salary issues, but it is in part because serviceable RB's are readily available cheap via the draft.
Eh, that seems more like the game/league has changed. No one is building a team around a feature back as much anymore. Teams are still giving out good contracts to proven RB's who still have some youth left (with does not describe CJ) and plenty of other positions are highly valued in the free agent market versus trying to draft them. If you can buy/draft a good O-line, then a fourth and fifth round RB is good enough. Not so for many other important positions like tackles, corners, linebackers and receivers.

I'm with you that it screwed the players, like most shit the league and teams tend to do, but not that the players asked for it. The players get screwed left and right in this league and itissad that RB's are shit on now given the grueling and short-lived nature of the position. NFL is already a disadvantageous place for rank-and-file players because you are stuck in the NCAA system for years more than other pro athletes are forced to be and then when you do make it now you are dicked over for league minimums with no vet status during the prime health years of your life.

The home/away schedules are released years in advance, Azeth. We just don't know when, within the season, the game will happen. The only two games that aren't known until the season is over are the two non-predetermined conference games you play since it's based on the place you finish within your division in the previous season.

Strong chances of Baltimore opening at home, in prime time, and against Steelers or Bengals....in order of likelihood.

Everyone loves seeing two teams that didn't make playoffs the previous year to open the next season's first primetime game!

In the last draft before the new rookie pay scale, since Eric Berry(Safety-Chiefs) was taken 5th overall, he got a huge contract and instantly became the highest paid Safety in the NFL(as that generally isn't a huge money position other than a couple of guys). Yes, before he had even played 1 down, he made more money than Troy Polamalu and Ed Reed. He's good, but he's not those guys in their prime, not even close. In that same draft, Sam Bradford as the #1 overall pick came into the league as like the 6th highest paid QB at the time. Crazy stuff.

Under the old pay scale, it was getting to the point that it really only made sense to draft QBs or Left Tackles near the top of the first round, otherwise the pay scale was WAY out of whack for other positions if they went that high.

Pats' have the AFC West and the NFC North this year.
The AFC West and the NFC West all matchup this year. Should be fun seeing Denver play San Fran and Seattle in the regular season. I'm also interested in seeing how the Chiefs do against that division. The Chiefs lucked out last year in beating up on a down NFC East, going 4-0 against them(didn't hurt that our new coach Andy Reid knew that division REALLY well). I don't see them going undefeated against the NFC again this year, they'll probably miss the playoffs because of that.

I'm tempted to go to the 49ers vs. Raiders game this year as my aunt has Raiders season tickets. However, I feel there are going to be some crazy mother fuckers there, and my life may end up in danger!

I am torn on what to do.

Are the seats in a nice section? I have a feeling there will be a lot of 49ers fans at that game.

Oakland Coliseum is one of the worst venues in sports. Even worse than Candlestick and that place was a dump.

Yeah, they are on the club level. Still, you have to go through the parking lot before and after the game, and I am sure we would tailgate before. I would be more concerned about all the shenanigans going on after the game really.

It is pretty bad, but I don't think it is worse than Candlestick was. The parking for one, especially with the option of BART right there, is leaps and bounds better. But overall yes, it is a pretty shitty stadium.

Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo sucks also. Its basically plopped right into a grimy redneck neighborhood. You'll likely pay a dickhead buffalo fan named Billy to park in his fucking front yard. All the while being harassed by toothless buffalo fans

Hurray! Get him the fuck off ESPN. Now if only Cris Carter would do something stupid as well.
The list of asshats working at the four letter that would need to be accomplices to the crime to make that network watchable would fill a small book.

Don't be a pussy. They play each other in preseason all the time and there is lots of good natured trash talking but nothing happens. There will be tons of 49er fans there and you're not going to get in a fight unless you're looking for one.
