Yeah, this is definitely an example of "spending to spend". And that beautiful
Juszczyk signing yesterday. What the fuck lol.

Think of Juice as more of a TE than a true FB, catching, blocking, some playmaking ability, still young. They still overpaid but in terms of what he can do in a Shanahan offense, I get it.

Either Schefter or Rapport tweeted Browns are actually mulling just releasing Osweiler, so they paid 16m for a 2nd round pick if thats the case

$14M for Alshon seems steep. That puts him in top 3 WR salaries in NFL

As a redskins fan this makes me sick. We were too cheap to pay our best d-lineman 6mil a year?? And instead we spent that money on a shittier D-lineman(from the cowboys!?)?
God dammit fucking shit fucking dammit FUCK

Well its a "prove it" contract. Next year you can cut, negotiate or let him go to market. With the injury concerns its a reasonable way to do things for both sides. He has the talent to be worth the payday but if shit goes bad at least they can move on. What's the breakdown of the deal though, all guaranteed?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Fuck Osweiler!

Full details from Shefter: "NFL stunner: Texans trade QB Brock Osweiler AND a 2018 second-round pick to Cleveland for the Browns to take Osweiler’s $16M salary of Houston’s books, per league sources. The move clears out millions in salary-cap space for Houston to intensify efforts to sign former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, per sources. To be exact, Houston saves $16 million in cash and $10 million against their cap this season. The Texans also will get the Browns’ fourth-round pick this year in exchange for their own 6th-round pick. So Cleveland gets Osweiler’s contract, a 2018 second-round pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick, and Houston gets Cleveland’s 2017 fourth-round pick, saves $10 million in salary-cap space and $16 million in cash. Cleveland is not committed to keeping Osweiler and is likely to try to trade him, per sources. If so, it would turn into a basketball-like trade in which NBA teams routinely trade contracts to get them off their books; only it rarely, if ever, happens in the NFL. It’s hard to remember in the salary-cap era another team when a team traded a contract to get it off its books. But Houston was so anxious to rid itself of Osweiler and move on to its next quarterbacking chapter that it is giving Cleveland extra picks to take him and his contract. The Browns headed into this free-agent signing period with over $100 million worth of salary-cap space and would struggle to spend it all. Now they can devote some of it to Osweiler’s contract and acquiring extra draft picks from Houston. But this is one of the most, if not the most, creative trade in NFL history."

I'm bummed the 49ers weren't able to snag Bouye. With the money they are doling out to decent players, you think they would have been willing to pay a premium for a proven player.

Browns now shopping Osweiler offering to eat atleast half of the 16 million guaranteed.

This is the craziest FA period ever. More entertaining than a lot of the games last year.

We picked up Mike Wallace's option, so I'm happy with that.

strong rumor has malcom butler(restricted free agent-patriots) being traded to the saints for cooks... nothing "solid" as of yet.

NFC South going to be a brawl. I don't expect the Panthers to be shit tier like this past season, the Bucs are making improvements on both sides of the ball (assuming the new additions stay healthy), and the Falcons haven't really done much (nor do they really need to). If the Saints really do trade Cooks can probably pencil them in for last place. One stud isn't going to fix the sieve that is their defense.
