Well its a "prove it" contract. Next year you can cut, negotiate or let him go to market. With the injury concerns its a reasonable way to do things for both sides. He has the talent to be worth the payday but if shit goes bad at least they can move on. What's the breakdown of the deal though, all guaranteed?

To be exact, Houston saves $16 million in cash and $10 million against their cap this season. The Texans also will get the Browns’ fourth-round pick this year in exchange for their own 6th-round pick. So Cleveland gets Osweiler’s contract, a 2018 second-round pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick, and Houston gets Cleveland’s 2017 fourth-round pick, saves $10 million in salary-cap space and $16 million in cash. Cleveland is not committed to keeping Osweiler and is likely to try to trade him, per sources. If so, it would turn into a basketball-like trade in which NBA teams routinely trade contracts to get them off their books; only it rarely, if ever, happens in the NFL. NFC South going to be a brawl. I don't expect the Panthers to be shit tier like this past season, the Bucs are making improvements on both sides of the ball (assuming the new additions stay healthy), and the Falcons haven't really done much (nor do they really need to). If the Saints really do trade Cooks can probably pencil them in for last place. One stud isn't going to fix the sieve that is their defense.
