Changing personnel can change the scheme. LeBeau is long gone now.

I think the issue with the Steelers is that they loathe paying big money to a single player on defense.

What Edko said.

Tomlin is Dungy guy, ie, a Tampa 2 guy and Sherman can play anything, man, zone, offman, press, he can do it all. He's drafted guys in recent years that suit that defense, and the Steelers ran a lot of those concepts last season (they were in nickel as their actual base defense, a leaguewide trend btw, about 70% of the time last season --it was rare to see them in their usual base 3-4 at all). If you watch Seattle, they rarely if ever even have him follow a teams number 1 if he motions across their defense to the other side which is the tell a team is in zone. Seattle mixes up their defense a lot, and the guy is just a good player.

To your point about paying, its true. However, I think the Steelers brass might finally be seeing the writing on the wall and the retirement talk scared them into actually trying to find a couple of pieces to make one last run. From what I get the sense of in their FO, its kind of desperation mode right now.

Going to be crazy if Jalen Smith ends up back at full strength and playing this year. I was happy someone took a shot on him look forward to seeing how he does this year, everything about him seemed like he was a great kid and that injury was gruesome to overcome.

Will be ready for OTA, full participation. The nerve has fired and regenerating. The speed of the regeneration is the only thing in question.

Derek Barnett or TJ Watt is who I'm predicting in the 1st for Dallas. Barnett if he falls, Watt if Barnett is gone.

Agent says he has been sick and was basically over-hydrating.

For once, it seems plausible. Peppers has never failed a test before and the agent laid out a pretty detailed itinerary.

Nobody ever fails a drug test until they do. His excuse is total BS, btw.

Dilute samples are pretty easy to get. One of my friends who I know hasn't smoked pot in like 10 years just had one a couple weeks ago starting a new job.

The NFL does their combine drug test early in the morning when urine most concentrated so he would have had to have been drinking throughout the night and into the morning. That makes dilute samples extremely suspect in this situation.

In general, though, it can happen legitimately from time to time and the proper thing to do is get a second sample a short time later.
