I made the mistake of not getting my own Switch early on and as a result the number of Nintendo games I have completed in the last few years is in the single digits; I want another now so my kids don't have to share with **each other**. I always expected them to have another "console" out by now, really but the way they are so locked into their own ecosystem and IPs, (and how successful they are at this) how much need is there? They aren't competing/benefiting from the PC upgrade cycle.

I saw an article online that said there was probably going to be a newer Switch (probably 2021) that was going to use a new AMD chip, instead of the older Nvidia Tegra X1 that the system is currently using. Definitely won't compete with the new PS5 or Xbox, but will probably give it substantial more power than what the Switch currently has. Seems about right, because that would be 4 years since initial release for the system.

I'll be honest, the Switch is one of the best systems I've ever purchased. I've played so many ports that I probably would've never played otherwise. Throw in the Nintendo exclusives, plus the fact that it's portable, and I definitely feel like I've gotten my money's worth. I kinda thought the idea of it being a home console, as well as a portable was kind of stupid at the time, but it works so effortlessly both docked and on the go, it's pretty god damn brilliant.

Since his is his and now mine is mine we don't synch them or switch between. We did have to move his profile over from mine and a few saves at first,, but that wasn't too hard, the biggest thing is I made sure from the start to buy almost exclusively physical so we can share games.

So how backwards is Nintendo in 2020? Release blockbuster game, Lite version of console, special editions of consoles, paid for cloud saves....THEN YOU CAN'T FUCKING MOVE YOUR ISLAND IN ANIMAL CROSSING TO A BRAND NEW SWITCH? WHAT?

We were forced to buy a lite so wife could play AC since there is a shortage of full size units about a month ago and just a couple of days ago I managed to get a full Switch online from Costco. Found someone interested in the lite and figured cool, recouped some of the spent money only to find out, NOPE. Wife is losing her shit, 110 hours she's put into that fucking game already.

What kind of retard fucking company doesn't assume people would want to upgrade their fucking switch, or buy a 2nd/3rd switch?

Is there a way around this I haven't found?

You can transfer your data if you still have both your old switch and new system, you have to a game/saves transfer its part of the setup process on the new switch where it'll ask if you want to move data from the old switch.

If you've already sold your old switch then you may be SOL, saves are stored on internal storage (not the SD card, which gets reformatted anyways when moving to a new system) and Animal Crossing doesn't support cloud saves because they don't want people doing weird shit then "restoring" via cloud save, not really sure how thats a huge exploit but apparently big N thinks it is.

do you still have the lite? you are fine if you do, i think you are fucked if its gone. There is apparently a one time exception Nintendo will make and restore a cloud save for AC (which i guess it does in a "hidden" way) but i don't know if they have actually put out a system for that yet

and yeah N is fucking awful when it comes to that kind of stuff, its a little better than 3 years ago but there are all sorts of issues with saves, islands, second players, etc

You cannot move your Animal Crossing save that way unfortunately from what I've researched. They won't even have the ability to restore islands from stolen/broken switches until later this year. (because somehow this is difficult to add? hah)

My wife has already gone through the 5 stages of grief and is now planning to dump all her stuff on a friends island and start over on the new switch.

Why do you feel you've played it so much more? In my life, if I can sit in bed, or anywhere with a Switch and play a game, I can go sit on my PC and play the same games, or I can sit on the couch and play Ps4.

yeah but if I'm sitting on my computer in our basement and my wife is 15 feet away from me watching tv, we're not together. If I'm in bed playing a game on the switch and she's in bed next to me, or if I'm on the couch next to her playing a game, then we're together.

Huh yea, makes sense. Have a number of friends with wives the same way. Sucks. Wife and I don't watch shows together that both of us don't like so I'm not in a situation where I gotta multi-task. I'm into the show or movie and not just half watching.

I travel a lot (or at least I did before Covid) so I can take my Switch with me and play it on the plane, at the airport, at my hotel, etc... I've just had so much fun not only playing the exclusives on the system, but so many ports that I would've never probably played had they not been available for the Switch. It's not a perfect system (some of their online playability is ass backwards), but the library of games it has, and the fact that I can play it docked or mobile, makes me give it a 10 as a system.

Yea, I travel every single week for work, even still because I'm considered essential. But I have a gaming laptop I setup on my hotel room desk and game it up. I've brought my switch a couple weeks total. Granted, with animal crossing in my house I'd likely get shanked if I took the Switch with me at this point.

I just came into a Switch/docking station + Mario Party + an extra set of controllers for $150.

A quick Ebay/Amazon search led me to believe it was way too good of a deal to pass up and the friend I got it from needed the money.

Honestly though, I don't know what the fuck I would even play on this thing. I scanned through their online store I did not see a single game that peaked my interest. I was actually shocked at how small the library was. What am I missing here? I thought at least it could be a mobile Netflix streaming device, but no...

Pretty sure the animal crossing world and a bunch of the data/island seeds are all tied to the console serial number, which is why you can't transfer any of this stuff. Basing it all off a seed that you can't modify is either a terrible attempt at preventing cheating/hacking or a reaaaally lazy design choice.
