Yea but does that really matter? The recent Pokemon games were trash. Mario Kart hasn't really done anything new since the Wii letting you put the controller in a plastic wheel. Smash Bros has been incrementally improved but nothing really has advanced. Mario games are just new content of the same 3d platformer.

I look at Nintendo as new release old party games. I'll pick them up dirt cheap every few generations.

I usually get the new Sony consoles on day one (did with PS3, 4 and 5) and the new Nintendo consoles about 3-4 years after they come out (N64 in '99, Gamecube in '03, Wii in '10, Wii U in '16). Switch was the first Nintendo console I got on day one. Probably gonna see if I can grab a Switch 2 order as soon as Gamestop gets them in and get that one on day one. Not because I'm stoked for it, but because their systems sell out so fast to the lemmings. If it does end up being a killer system that upgrades all my Switch games, I'll want that and will be glad I didn't miss it. If it sucks, I'll just sell it month 1 at a profit and get another one in a few years.

Man, another Nintendo system I’m not fucking buying until Zelda lands. I wish they’d either get back into making real hardware or just put their shit on other platforms.

They haven’t made real hardware since N64, 1996, almost 30 years ago. They’re underpowered gimmicky hardware for life, it prints money. We all hate it but there’s no incentive to change.

Ehh the gamecube was legit, but it was a ATI partnership (some even had the little ATI powered by sticker like a computer) - and at the time, ATI was the underdog in the industry while /the real players were using Nvidya/

But deff once we got into the Wii world

Eh, I could agree with that sentiment if Nintendo had brought out a Switch 2 that was basically on par with the Steam Deck, but the actual hardware is way more powerful than that. Fitting it into a shell that's much smaller than a Deck as well, and somehow managing to keep the thing cooled, is actually rather impressive imo.

That said, at this point the only "leak" I am interested in is how much the damn thing is going to cost.

But seriously, nintendo just needs to officially announce Switch 2. So many leaks etc it's dumb to not force something out at this point.

I think trying to make both a console and a handheld in one is a the biggest problem. I almost never use the handheld mode. Some use it all the time. I wish they just made two versions. A beast console and a handheld. Then they’d have to get online right, etc. They haven’t shaken the perception of the kids console while Xbox or PS remain the “adult” consoles.

I just wish Nintendo would be a 3rd party and focus on games, versus underpowered gimmicky systems.

Nintendo has some of the all time great IPs, and I feel like they handicap themselves focusing on hardware and not just great games anymore.

Plus the games come.out at such a glacial pace, I'm not sure I'll be alive for the next round of great titles lol.

The funny thing is that fans make such awesome romhacks of all things Nintendo that all Nintendo needs to do (to bridge the gap between official releases) is start licensing fan productions and giving them official releases. Things like Super Mario Crossover should be on Switch. Super Metroid hacks, Four Swords DSi (which isn't even a hack, Nintendo themselves made it and then took it away lol). So many options.

That hardware prints money because of the IP, though. Nintendo generates more profit than Sony and Microsoft's combined game divisions. They'll change strategy when it stops hitting home runs.

And to be fair, the games are by and large really good, which is more than you can say for a lot of 1st party shit today. The BotW was up there almost with ER on "cultural impact." Super Mario Odyssey was pretty damn good. Zelda TotK wore on me semi-quick but was still excellent, particularly if you're into the building shit. Metroid Dread was good but definitely had some polarizing elements. So on....it just sucks that 3rd party support really really blows. And that has a lot to do with underpowered hardware and the worst fucking online since AOL.

I guess I’m not quite the neckbeard super gamer that everyone else is here. I appreciate the handheld aspect of the switch. Why would I want another console exactly the same as existing PlayStation or Xbox consoles? I’ll take the console with a handheld form factor for the Nintendo first party games, and anything else that is more convenient to play on a handheld like jrpgs. Anything else I’ll just play on another console or PC.

The switch 1 being underpowered is a legitimate concern, but that’s not gimmicky it was just Nintendo being a bit too cheap. Hopefully the switch 2 hits a good performance point without making it cost a ton.
