Lmao I'm out if the games are going to now cost even more for the same garbage with minor tweaks. They need to do more than slightly remaster the same game every time. Indy games have surpassed Nintendo at this point so there's really no excuse.

Usually when a new system gets announced, Gamestop starts taking orders on it within an hour or so of the announcement.

With PS5 and Switch I barely got my systems on day one and only because I got in and preordered pretty much the minute they were on sale. For PS5 I had to wait in line outside a Gamestop waiting for it to open (I guess the announcement had been the night before or something) and was first in line so I got the single PS5 they were reserving that day (wtf).

So anybody who wants a Switch 2, be prepared to run over to your local Gamestop once an announcement happens, and bring $100 since that's the minimum.

That better just be for Nintendo's own games. I own about 50 Switch games, 0 developed by Nintendo and only about a half dozen published by them. Don't see that changing at all with the Switch 2 either.

$399 is reasonable for the system though.

new system announcements for the last few years work in 2 waves. first is the announcement, with minimal info on specs, release date, etc. Part of the announcement though is the day preorders will open, which is NOT the same day. Most likely an announcement this week will say the date preorders begin in different regions. Allegedly Nintendo has been manufacturing this thing already for 4+ months and has millions of units so I wouldn't worry too much about inventory/scalpers. Maybe if there is a limited edition one, that might sell out fast.

Even still, remember this is gonna just have LED models at launch, any OLED upgrades won't be out for at least 1-2 years.

basically its the equivalent of a ps4 in handheld and closer to a ps4 pro in docked, but it will have DLSS which consoles didn't have until PS5 Pro. If you think DLSS is good i guess. Either way its nearly a 10x improvement in raw power over the switch 1, but the screen is going up from 720p to 1080p too.

be interesting to see what emulators do, a high end PC should be able to emulate this stuff pretty decent at 30 fps for sure, maybe 60 fps

Consoles (including the Switch) had FSR long before the PS5 Pro, and the Pro has PSSR which is basically a preview version of FSR 4.0.

DLSS 3.5 will definitely make a big difference for the Switch 2 though, but it's worth noting it won't support frame gen. Which is fine imo, frame gen is garbage for trying to hit 60 fps and is only useful on PCs that are shooting for much higher frame rates.

To put this in perspective, PS5 is around 10 teraflops, PS4 Pro is around 4, and PS4 is around 1.8.

So yeah, Switch 2 handheld will be about PS4 level and Switch 2 docked will be just under PS4 Pro.

Kinda underwhelming, but still significantly better than the PS3.5 level Switch.

I'd love to see Nintendo put out a system that actually outgunned their competitors. It's been so long since that happened. 1996, probably, maybe 2001 (unsure how powerful the Gamecube was).

Never will happen - they have over 80+ million every generation buying their new 3-4 year old tech at a massive hardware profit.

I don't care about the hardware really, other than it's packaged very well. I like that they've been cheaper. $399 is going the wrong direction for what I consider to be in between phone games and regular consoles.

I really just want better games. A $199/299 price point even if "older" but well optimized and with good UX/features is perfect, when games are 5-$30.

A $399 console with $69 same game as last time doesn't really interest me at all.

That's the pickle they are in too but doesn't seem to matter much - although it will be curious to watch how many people bite on it this time with the price hike.

If they will support all previous entries for the switch in the new hardware like BOTW, Mario, 3rd Party like Xenoblade etc (Remakes) then it should do well. If they fuck it up their remakes like they did this generation, fuck that noise.

Their 1st party titles take forever to come out but I would guess they have Metroid 4 optimized and ready to go with this thing on launch.

will it be available for pre order when it's announced? or likely not until later on when they announce the exact launch date?

They will probably announce a later date for pre-orders during announcement. Sony did this with the PS5. But then walmart did pre-orders early right after the reveal, so keep an eye out for retailers doing it early anyway.

Yeah, I fail to understand why anyone would prefer a Switch 2 over a Steam handheld at this point in time.

nintendo switch has the best jrpg library to offer. therefore a switch 2 is likely to be needed sooner or later.

Can't you just emulate Switch games on either a Steamdeck or a Rog Ally? I don't have a handheld PC, but I know my desktop made BOTW / TOTK run more stable and way higher res than native on a switch....

Not a big pirate by any means, but I think the game was way better via emulation than trying to play it on the OG switch, especially in handheld mode.

I don't expect Xenoblade and other exclusives to be cross-released on Steam just because Switch 2 comes out. At least PS games eventually make it to other platforms but Nintendo locks that shit down.
