I’ll wait for the OLED version - but might go ahead and buy Hogwarts Legacy on sale, would be fun to play in handheld mode with a Switch 2

CV is Konami and they are… doing… the tings with it…

I feel like I’m missing a meme reference.

I meant it as Castlevania would be the only non-nintendo first party I’d go out and buy a Switch 2 for assuming it’s in Metroidvania 2d format. For first party a traditional Zelda and another Xenoblade would sell me. Early rumors sounds like the big reveal is Metroid though but I’ve never really been a big Metroid fan.

My googlefu might be a little off but it looks like the last Castlevania game was Lords of Shadow 2 in 2014 and the last non-remake/remaster to hit Nintendo was Order of Ecclesia for the 3ds in 2008. It’s a shame it’s a dead IP right now.

When they started letting other companies make pachinko out of there IPs, and the bomb that was that Zombie Metal Gear game. I just gave up on Konami, (I know recently they did some good with the Silent Hill 2 remaster). But not holding my breath for Silent Hill(F)..

Ah, well, that’s a shame.

It really does feel like we’re well out of the golden age of gaming at this point. Or maybe it’s just my nostalgia.

Switch 2 is a no brainer day 1 buy for me. As much as I love PC and PS5 gaming, the switch probably got the most playtime in our house. So much so I bought two.

I wouldn't even care if it was the same exact console with beefier stats to modernize it. The only thing I don't like about the switch now is it feels long in the tooth.

It’s become the opposite for us. Even my wife plays the Xbox more than the switch now. I will buy it but I’ll wait for some Switch exclusives.

This has me thinking about the gaming dynamics and how they’ve evolved. My wife went from video games are stupid, to animal crossing and other Switch games, to Xbox. My son went from Switch to PS5. I went from PS5 to PC almost exclusively the past two years except for like two games.

The only thing that will make me buy a new switch is new games that actually do something different. Otherwise I'll just wait until sales/bundles/switch 1 craps out etc.

The Switch era firmly cemented I'm out of their market segment as I don't want to play docked games at 1080p or worse at 30 fps. For handheld purposes Steam Deck is superior in every single meaningful way for me so I'll just emulate the handful of games I'd want to play that are Nintendo exclusive for a better experience overall (4k/60+FPS BAAABY).

Well the new one might fix your first complaint. I have the PC for everything besides Nintendo/party games, so Switch is fine for that.

I just wish they'd stop extorting people for older titles, or indie games, compared to steam.

Yeah, I don't think Nintendo truly understands price elasticity. I'd have bought a TON of older/classic ports if they were priced $5-10. Instead they're $25-40 and I buy zero.

Well atleast this time Switch games will work on Switch 2 including physical carts.

New Mario Kart is going to be a release title on this apparently, if its not too stupidly priced its probably day 1.

Is there any info on MK yet? The last one felt exactly like they all do. I don't see a reason to bother if there's nothing at all new there. It's starting to feel like the Pokemon games where it's a shit dev studio phoning it in now and just a rehash of their core titles.

At least with Zelda you could say there's story/world or whatever even if it's fundamentally the same. SSB is starting to get stale too.

Not yet, expect that info to release with the Switch 2 announcement in April. I think the problem is Mario Kart 8 was a WII U release in 2014 lol, so yea the game feels stale as it really hasnt had anything added to it since 2017 with it came to Switch. Anything new at this point would be welcome, but that's a long time to not add anything new other then new tracks etc.

For us, yes, but we are a minority. Only about a third of console owners have more than one platform. I can't find good data on the exact distribution and overlap of console ownership, but there are a lot of people out there who didn't play these games anywhere else.

Paying $50-60 for years old games and $20-50 for decades old games/indies is definitely ass, but that doesn't matter to people locked in ecosystem/Nintendo diehards as it's usually their only option to play them so Nintendo has no reason to change it.

If I'm expected to pump $1k into console/accessories and library of games that feel 2 generations behind vs spending an hour to set up emulators properly I know which one I'm going to choose, but not everyone has that desire or option especially if they just need shit their kids can turn on and go.

I didn't even realize that MK8 was 11 years old, I think they most have added some content for switch release right? Never had a wii u so it was still new for me.

So on Wii-U it had dlc courses that were bundled into the base game on Switch in 2017 plus below

  • Revamped Battle mode with new courses, complete with rules like Balloon Battle and Bob-omb Blast. New Battle mode courses include Urchin Underpass and Battle Stadium, plus returning ones like GCN Luigi's Mansion and SNES Battle Course 1.
  • Choose from new characters, such as Inkling Girl and Inkling Boy from Splatoon, King Boo, Dry Bones and Bowser Jr., and customise new vehicles.
  • Two items can now be carried at once, and more items have been added, including returning favourites such as Boo, the item-stealing ghost, and the Feather, which gives you a high jump in Battle mode.
  • Play your friends in local wireless multiplayer with up to 8 players.
  • Play in TV mode in up to 1080p.
  • Enjoy home-console-quality Mario Kart action anytime, anywhere with handheld mode.
  • New optional Smart Steering feature makes it easier for kids and novice players to stay on the track, even at 200cc.
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is compatible with all of the same amiibo, plus Animal Crossing and Splatoon amiibo.
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe includes all the DLC from the Wii U version of Mario Kart 8, including Mercedes karts.
Switch 2 is the same power level as a PS4 Pro (I think I read that a few pages back), even adding sprawling F-Zero type tracks would be possible now, they would have options to really shake it up and I hope they do.
