I agree there but the only thing I really have left to finish that I'm playing on my switch is Persona 5 and Octopath traveller 2. Not sure it really matters that much at this point.
I've already beaten X on my Wii U, game was amazing until you could fly then the challenge and fun exploring disappeared.
Ill pick it up again probably but I can wait. Never played the Xenosaga series though.
I could play it on my Steam Deck but my backlog and lack of time have me waiting to see if it's ever remastered, however unlikely.
Gonna disagree with you about XCX's flying. For me the game got kind of tedious UNTIL I unlocked flying, then it was awesome. I was zipping all over the place, exploring places I couldn't get to before, and it felt so much more lively and open at that point.
Forget Xenoblade and Xenosaga, what we need is XenoGEARS 2D-HD remake. I'd say "with some of the cut areas restored" but after Demon Souls Remake I know that'll never happen with anything I like. Xenogears remains the best Xeno game to date IMO and probably the best pre-2000 RPG I've played, and it still has a pretty sizable fanbase. At this point going back to it is rough, though, because it's basically Gen 1 3D on the PS1 and really doesn't look very good anymore.
The Xenosaga trilogy is good but it was also a product of its time. I loved it when I was a late teenager and still had some optimism for life, plus I thought it was leading into the events of Xenogears (it isn't, despite seemingly copying every year and location from Xenogears Perfect Works Episode 1). The trilogy definitely made me feel things back then. Now I'm not sure, it might just be another 2000's era series that isn't very playable now due to QOL advancements in the genre.
XCX is a whole different ballgame. I played it through like a year or so ago I want to say, holiday season 2023 maybe, and I still don't actually know how I feel about it. The giant mechs made me think/hope it'd be another Xenogears, but it's more like a single-player MMO where I constantly felt underpowered compared to the foes (until some point where it suddenly flipped and everything was too easy). The story wasn't very interesting, but I liked the alien world and how interesting some of the biomes were.
Xenoblade 1 kind of exists in a bubble for me, it's a good RPG but I don't know what it has to do with the Xeno series at large. Like it has no real shared themes with XG/XS/XCX, all of which have a ton of shared themes between them, so I'm not even sure why it has the Xeno name.
Haven't played through Xenoblade 2 or 3, as XB1 just didn't interest me enough to continue with that series. However I did try XB2 for a couple of hours and liked what I saw. The music is very Xenogears and the story has some of the same beats too. I'd probably like XB2 if I ever get it (more like if I ever have time for it).
TLDR: What we really need is a Xenogears 2D-HD
