The best way to play Nintendo games if you don’t want to emulate is buy it a couple years later then gobble up all the first party games and any must play exclusives at once.

That said, Switch 2 is probably a day 1 buy for me. I have a bunch of switch 1 games I haven’t finished, and with the switch 2 being backwards compatible, so why not.

One of the guys at work as being buying and modding old psp’s and most recently a vita. I’ll probably end up doing the same since I missed both those, and they look at neat devices that feel like great handhelds. This might also get me to put together a generic handheld emulator and convert an old nuc or raspberry pi into an emulator. I’ve had a kit in a box for 4 years now.

This is the most 'Japan has been living in 2004 since 1984, and continues to live in 2004' shit I've seen in a long time.

Prices are all insane, online features cost $$, gimmicky '3d' camera bullshit no one cares about? And claiming this thing is gonna play games at 4k/60fps? Lmao, the Elden Ring trailer was at like 20fps, okay guys. An LCD screen? Really?

I'm gonna be big fucking mad when there is Switch exclusive Elden Ring content.

There is new content for Elden Ring but the new content will be made available for other platforms:

No suprises here. Overpriced games and peripherals, underwhelming specs, pathetic game lineup.

Will print money.

My favorite is the paid "Welcome Tour" to explain how the console works.

Nintendo truly knows how to milk their consumers.

On one hand, the SNES cost $200 in 1991 dollars.. or about $460 in today's dollars, without a screen, internal storage, connectivity, etc.

On the other hand... the Switch 2 isn't competing with consoles, it is competing with the Steam Deck and imitators, and I'm not sure the comparisons are especially great for Nintendo, especially given the game prices and overall game availability.

That Fromsoftt game of Duskblood really amazes me though. I was not expecting an exclusive new game there and exclusive on the switch 2 console. However, at best that thing is going to run 1080p30 if we are lucky while docked (Hopefully 1080p60) so I am hoping it is a timed exclusive because that really belongs on my PS5 Pro.

With that said, to use the features outside of mouse you need to be subbed.
You will need a new Pro Controller.
You will need to buy the upgrades to previous switch games. (Not uncommon but no one showed pricing - 10 bucks, fine but - if it goes to 30 people are going to be pissed)

In the end at least it was confirmed Metroid will be 4k60 docked.

$499 for the console with Mario Kart.
I would imagine they will increase their sub pricing.
$79 for a new Pro Controller

All to get somewhat close to a console power of maybe a Series S/PS4 Pro lite.

Like Hateyou Hateyou says, it will still sell like crazy.

They’re not competing with steam deck imo. Nintendo makes bank off parents buying them for their kids. Yeah there are adult queers buying them for themselves to display in the middle of their funko pop collections but they’re not the main money makers. Steam deck guys are a different audience than switch guys.

Goddamnit. And you know the first adults buying it will pose with bearded open mouths.

Do we have any actual evidence that Nintendo games are sold primarily to kids anymore? Having a hard time finding useful data, but Nintendo Target Market & Audience Segmentation | Start.io. (from 2023) indicates the average Switch player is about as likely to be 11 as they are our age.

If, in fact, Nintendo (after losing kids and casuals to phones over the last couple gens) is primarily dealing with college graduates, a Steam Deck is a more reasonable form factor / price than trying to beat out the phones the kids / casuals already have in their pockets and are thus effectively free.

Apparently getting to legally drink aligns with playing Nintendo Switch

i did the "i'm interested" thing on the website to put my hat in for pre-order direct from nintendo.

The FAQ says that the preference will be given for people who qualify by: being an account that has had nintendo online subscription for 12 months, has 50 hours of playins, and has the little 'share info with nintendo" ticketd. so at the very least they are planning to sell all those to very involved nintendo heads (adults) and not so much to random whim children.

i know the consoles are going to be in every store that carries such things, but nintendo does seem to be aiming right at their power users (again, adults).

That Duskblood game looks unappealing. It reminds me of those old PS1/PS2 action JRPGs with big gothic wide open areas and no stairs, just huge ramps you can drive a dump truck on.

Between that and Nightreign, I'm wondering wtf is going on at FromSoft.

Thats one way to combat scalpers I guess?

I don't think it is kids/teens/college, I honestly have no idea who the demographic is for Switch anymore. You either have kids playing on mobile devices, tablets, or ps5/xbox. Adults play on ps5/xbox/pc . Maybe toddlers and daycare type environments
