I don't think it is kids/teens/college, I honestly have no idea who the demographic is for Switch anymore. You either have kids playing on mobile devices, tablets, or ps5/xbox. Adults play on ps5/xbox/pc . Maybe toddlers and daycare type environments

I think that categorization is innacurate. Just look at how many of us here have one or more Switches and have played BotW/TotK, etc. Personally, I game 95% on the PC but still pick up the generational titles from Nintendo. I haven't owned a Sony/Microsoft console since the PS2. All but a tiny handful of games from those platforms eventually come to PC and I'm fine with waiting. My backlog is years long anyway. I spend zero time gaming in the living room. Switch is travel/late night in bed.

I'll probably get a Switch 2 eventually, but there's no urgency unless one of the flagship titles is completely amazing.

I was looking forward to picking one up honestly....but for $500, and almost another $100 for a pro controller, it's simply out of my price range.

Also, wtf at the LCD screen. Gross.

Hell, now that I think about it, look at the 1st party games Nintendo has announced for 2025:

Kirby...' s air ride. Anyone who played the original for the Gamecube is in at least their mid 20s.
Donkey Kong. Anyone who played Donkey Kong Country for the SNES is in at least their mid 30s.
Mario Kart, which is more all ages than for kids.

And the 3rd party game Nintendo paid good money for is a goddamn PvP Fromsoft title??!? Yeah, all the eight year olds are screaming for this one.

There's just no indication their lineup is aimed primarily, or frankly at all, for kids. I literally haven't looked at Switch releases since I permanently 'loaned' my switch to my nephew in ~2018 - were there even a sizable number of kid-specific (vs all ages) games for the Switch 1, for that matter?

Launching with Kart is cool, everyone loves Kart- not a peep about anything else though... like Mario,Smash, Zelda, Metroid or aux series... remakes relaunches etc...

But, regardless - it will sell enough for Nintendo - they can sell 1/2 that of PS/XB and still be super financially successful for the company - most likely even less sold will get them profit. Nintendo is flush and specific with the money- it allows them to do what they want really... lol

the more i think about it the more i think i'll just pass for now, there is literally only one game i'd play for six months probably - mario kart - and even that will get barely any play after 2 weeks. i doubt an OLED version will release this year but maybe next year and i'd rather have that

most of the games just seem to be downscaled ports of shit i've already played or will play on ps5/pc. nintendo has balls to launch a new console without a new zelda and mario 3d game.

Why is the most interesting looking game for the Switch 2 in 2025 Paraplegic Basketball?

The console itself is a hell of a lot more impressive than I thought it would be, I’ll give Nintendo that. Launch titles are practically non-existent as all leaks suggested, significantly worse than the original switch launch. I’m more interested than I was before but not with this current lineup.

People that will buy this are the people who buy nintendo games. People like the party games, new mario whatever, the next zelda/metroid/insert Nintendo IP here. More often than not these IP's new games will generally be good. Maybe you outgrown them or tastes changed but the sales numbers say people like them.

For what it is, the Switch is a good selling console. I played it a lot in portable and hooked to the TV. It offered things xbox/ps didn't and it got my money. I will buy this one also. I haven't played a steamdeck and with limited time I can just play steam games on my PC and I don't get nintendo IP's on steam.

I don't think it is hard to think having a Nintendo, xbox/PS, and a computer is out of touch with the adult gamer. Sure the price stings but with how president inflation handled things who is really surprised? Not sure why so many people have sand in their front hole about a console they already knew what it was going to be.

I'm still on the fence about buying one, but I can see why people are negative about it. I was 100% getting one until today, now it's more like 30%--and that's only if getting a preorder is as easy as placing an order online. No way am I jumping through any hoops to get one.

1. I think a lot of people were expecting $400 for the console, $450 with Mario Kart. $450/500 is paying Series X & PS5 prices for a console that is only barely competitive with a PS4.
2. Games coming in at $80, $90 for physical. Plus they've created a new "game-key cart" which has nothing actually on the cart except a product key; you have to download the whole game AND still keep the key cart in the console at all times to play it. Fucking retarded, but no info yet on how many games will ship that way.
3. Downgrade back to LCD is still a huge deal for anyone who uses portable mode.
4. Lack of info on what BC will actually do for Switch games besides the dozen or so getting a patch. At this point, it's pretty clear Nintendo isn't going to say anything and it will be up to review sites to test it.
5. Launch titles. I don't even play Nintendo's own games and so I wasn't expecting much...and they still managed to disappoint me.

Wish they'd just make a docked-only/no screen version of the console and include a Pro controller instead of joycons with it. I know that's never going to happen though. Nintendo just can't make something that's entirely free of gimmicks.

I didn’t realize it was LCD only. Not a huge deal for me since my LCD steamdeck probably gets more undocked use than my oled switch, and the screen doesn’t bother me. If I can get a pre-order maybe I’ll buy it, if not I may wait for the oled. I’m not going to spend a lot of time trying to track one down.

This shit announcement solidifies me waiting 3 years and buying the OLED version. Mario Kart is fun but not that fun.

Game prices have been climbing for a while, I've seen a few for $80 at launch in the past year.

Lots of people saying these prices are all going to jump upward because of tariffs. Are we even putting tariffs on Japan? I thought we were cool with them.

Game prices have been falling for decades in real terms. It would look more dramatic in 2025 dollars.

Metroid Prime 4 is releasing soon after if not at Switch 2 release. And Donkey Kong Bananza looks like a mix between Donkey Kong 64 and Mario Odyssey so I'd call that another flagship title, it looks like a lot of fun. And while Hyrule Warriors isn't part of the main Zelda line, I fucking LOVED Age of Calamity (the second game) which is basically a must for anyone who enjoyed Breath of the Wild as it really fleshes out the story a lot. I'm very excited for Age of Imprisonment based on just the good faith from that one game, even though I wasn't a big fan of the first Hyrule Warriors on Wii U.

DK should be pretty good, first 3D DK game since the N64 I think. Nintendo usually puts as much effort into DK games as they do with Mario games. Also we're getting it about a month after launch. I would bet that Metroid Prime 4 will be about a month after that, some time in mid to late August.

Elden Ring Nightreign will be out 6 or 7 days before this system which also works out really well timing-wise.

Also, taking so long to get to BOTW and TOTK might pay off if they're getting much-nicer versions or $20 or whatever (hoping for $10, expecting $30)

Here's a nice simple list:

1743634313524.png

I think the upgrade patch list will be free and the new higher-res version list will be paid digital upgrades / standalone releases for the system, like PS4 to 5 did.

Also gives me a reason to finally finish up with Mario Odyssey, will dust that off.

While the launch lineup is supremely underwhelming and is basically "2020 PS4", there's a lot of good to be found here I think.

Yeah I was thinking about it but no more. I can save all that cash and put it to my new PC and hook that sucker into my TV.
