PS4 has been pretty solid. I've had 2 crashes in total but after long play sessions. Lost no progress on both.
Those of you on the fence about buying. Think about this.
When you played EQ, did you farm for cash so you could buy your bigger bags? Did you rush off for every mining vein nearby in WoW? Does wealth accumulation appeal to you? This game captures some of that feeling. When you upgrade your ship and the inventory juggle stops. When you find a planet shitting gold or emeril and you can't even get past two little parts because your busting at the seams flying off to the station to sell your shit.
After getting some ship upgrades and the pirates don't just kill your ass in 10 seconds. When you can survive radiation, heat / cold without dumping tons of mats into your survival suit because you got upgrades now.
Rolling up on a distress call and seeing 20 pirates trying to take down a huge capital ship. Seeing some random ships and deciding you are going to blast them and take their shit.
Leaving a planet that you've explored enough of and seeing 3 more. Do you just warp off because the next atlas point is there or do you more often than not hit up those other planets and see what's up?
This game does a good job of catering to explorers. Crafters to a lesser extent. There is a lot of repetitive activity. You'll be exploring and mining 90% of your game time. Exploring will net resources, blue prints, language and lore. This is either going to be rewarding to you or not.
The planets are pretty diverse, there are cave systems that you can literally get so lost in you have to get as high as you can to the surface and blow your way through the ground to get out. There is a decent amount of diversity.
Does it get same'ish after a time? Sure, they are all spheres with plains, hills, mountains and caves. Oceans as well. They'll have different resources and looks but sure, it's same-ish. So yeah you'll see it all after a bit but they are still diverse enough and different enough that after 20+ of them I'm still visiting most of them in the systems I hit.
If you're the type that needs an objective to keep you rolling with constant feedback and updates this game might not fit you.
If you're the type that can make your own story, roll around the universe with a long term goal but get distracted for hours chasing pixel loot and catching tidbits of decent lore then give them your money.
