I love these hacks. Most likely Sean Murray was hammered and regretted what he said later in those emails.

Either way, the guy is a piece of shit and a liar and the entire development studio (Or whoever was in charge of the marketing process) should be brought up on false advertising charges and investigated by the FTC here in the US, and whatever the hell they may call it in the UK.

No Man's Sky

This week Hello Games will be releasing an update to No Man’s Sky. We’re calling it The Foundation Update, because we have added the foundations of base building, and also because this is putting in place a foundation for things to come.

Detailed patch notes will follow, and release will be soon.

Coming from five years of intense development, immediately after No Man’s Sky released the team spent six weeks updating the game with 7 patches across both platforms (the last of these was 1.09 on Sept 24th which you can read about here http://www.no-mans-sky.com/log/). These fixed many of the most common or critical bugs and issues post-release.

In the nine weeks since then our small team has been hard at work on development, testing and certification for the Foundation Update. It won’t be our biggest update, but it is the start of something.

The discussion around No Man’s Sky since release has been intense and dramatic. We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about.

Positive or negative feedback, you have been heard and that will truly help to make this a better game for everyone.

This update will be the first small step in a longer journey. We hope you can join us.

If they found a way to put in everything they originally promised I'd still play it probably. I enjoyed a lot about the game but when you realize there's literally no point to anything it's hard to keep going.

I'm just left wondering how they justify continuing to invest in the game. They should have moved on quicker than the guys who made The Order did.

It's not a huge corporation like EA or something. This is a small team, doesn't take millions to keep them going.

I suspect they made enough off initial sales to do whatever the hell they want for quite a while. Not zure how much there is to be made, though, what with all the price drops and used copies available.

I still intend to pick it up when I can find it for 10 bucks or so.

Question I have though is that if the object is still "travel to the centre of the galaxy", why spend the time to make a base? Might need to make a camp for the survival mode, but overall it appears fairly pointless. No point in backtracking.

Unless they added the intended functionality of multiplayer, allowing people to gather, create bases, build construction areas for ships and trade, starbases and the like with PvP enabled from the various factions. And I doubt even one of those will be implemented, much less all of them together which could make for a fun game.

EDIT: Freighters I guess are the "trade" part, but still.

That said, not a bad patch. But I don't think they should focus so much on the "free" parts of the updates. Still a way to go to get the game they said they would have in the first place.

Not gonna lie it looks pretty good for a surprise update. Hope there really is more to come, interest picking back up.
