...Then again every Sith seems to have broken that rule, so it is something of a moot point other than being useful to justify killing any other Sith you run across.
I guess you could stretch the rule into meaning The Apprentice is also looking for an apprentice of his own so he can overthrow his Master. This being the driving force behind the Sith... Power.

Then you have Sideous who had Maul and Dooku at the same time and who was working on turning Anakin while Dooku was still his apprentice... while Dooku was trying to turn Obi-Wan. So yeah dumb rule.

And apparently no Jedi EVER has realized the entire force idea thing is a balance...and if the sith are always "2" and the jedi are a shitton- no wonder the jedi are all weak sauce and the sith are uber powered mofo's- their power is only split 50/50 while the jedi are running at like 1/10000 a %

In the original movies there was none of this rule of 2 stuff. Jedi and Sith were all about the sorcery. The prequels made this into a caricature of Lawful Good vs Chaotic Evil, which makes absolutely no sense given the Sith from the original movies were more about order, structure, and power, and the Jedi were more akin to feel good hippies.

I always thought of Vader as a 'Lord of the Sith' which meant far different than being an apprentice.

I love Star Wars, but boy did Lucas really fuck up this universe.

Has anyone read the prequel novels? I actually really like the Rise of the Empire era which makes the prequel films even more disappointing to me. But I hear good things about the novels especially The Revenge of the Sith.

Sith are a murderous bunch master will kill apprentices if they find a better one, apprentices are always looking to eventually kill there masters and become the master.

Take Vader and Emperor both vying for Luke. Vader wants Luke to join him and together they will off the Emperor. Emperor wants Luke to kill Vader and replace him as his apprentice.

I was actually kinda of excited about the prequels following Phantom Menace because I felt they were setting up the Evil Galactic Empire to be something of a force of good compared to the really heavily corrupt and effectively paralyzed Republic. In that context Palpatine, realizing there is no actual way to change things from within without some sort of status quo altering event creates the "Phantom Menace" in order to effect change.

Could have set up a very interesting philosophical loggerhead where the 'evil' the Sith were doing is contrasted by the 'evil' that the Jedi were letting occur through complete inaction. Anakin, ex-slave, more naturally falls to the change-agent side of the Sith in an effort to improve things and only too late realizes that the pendulum swinging too far either direction causes problems.

Instead we just got twirling mustaches and a guy who decides one day to start slaughtering kids because his wife is preggers.

You mean a plausible plot with no catch 22's or deus ex machina shit going on? Yea, they don't make these movies for smart people that use logic. Bringing back Luke, Leia, and Han (not to mention the comic relief of R2D2 and C3PO) means that even the new script writers are not out to write a good story in this universe. They are simply trying to pull enough nostalgic levers to make us pony up for another set of sequels after horrifically burning us with the last ones. I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but once you read the Thrawn Trilogy, see the prequels, and hear the Lucasfilms people claim that the Expanded Universe isn't canon but their shitty ass movies are; you just lose all hope.

The Republic was corrupted by the Sith in the first place in order to take over. You have fallen for Palpatine's lies. But I guess all of that isn't canon anymore.

This shit is going to suck. All these big names being rumored and bringing back Luke/Leia tells me all I need to know that its going in the wrong direction. Probably be no more than another summer blockbuster CGI fest.

have faith dude, it cant be worse than the prequels, its just not possible. any movie will be an improvement. as long as the actors dont whine, no jar jar and they get to interract with a real set instead of greenscreen this movie will be head and shoulders above the last 3 turdfests

nah man, jj abrams is no lucas, he knows how to make entertaining films with exciting characters doing crazy shit. it wont be bland characters sitting around talking about shit to establish a story, shit will happen and we will like what they are doing. it may be dumb as fuck though.

I too have faith in Abrams. While I know plenty of folk here think he sucks ass, I personally have enjoyed pretty much everything he's done. If anyone can save this from a destiny of suck, it is him.

On one hand, I hate what Abrams did with the recent Star Trek movie, because that shit wasn't Star Trek. But on the other hand, if he made a Star Wars movie in a similar style, that could be awesome...

It would be really ironic/downright trolling if he made a Star Wars movie that was a really slow and contemplative morality play.

Why was it not like Star Trek? I thought both movies were great. they bested any other Star trek movie by a longshot. At least IMO.

The rule of 2 was in the movies directly from Yoda's lips. I doubt the awful Darth Bane novel is considered that way, though.

The funny thing is as much as I disliked the SWTOR movies, that setting and storyline is ripe for some awesome movies, and the Bioware trailers were actually better than any of the prequels. Large Jedi vs Sith battles onscreen would be fun.. Far better than clones or bots...
I'm a SW nut, or used to be. The originals killed that part of my childhood. I've only seen the prequels like once each. Forgot that line.
