Solidifying your support by creating a monster bigger than you for the people to fear is one thing. Solidifying your support by training the monster on your military and hoping you can feign death is another, and it's a ridiculous strategy. Especially since if it worked somehow, NK without a powerful army = open revolt.

North Koreans want to go to war, they think they will win

All politics are local. The sanctions are projected to cause a severe food shortage in North Korea and the rank and file soldiers believe the best way to save themselves is to start a war they know they will win and take South Koreas food.

What kind of education do the elite in NK get?
An expensive one. Kim Jong-un allegedly attended an international school in Bern, Switzerland under an alias. I would assume children of the other military elite receive similar treatment.

Rational theory model says that they probably won't attack using a nuke with that kind of education, but maybe they aren't rational or events could overtake them. Kind of a crappy situation.

If NK were actually going to attack they'd just do it. All these warnings and threats are the same shit they always do. I really hope we (meaning the world as a whole) finally call their bluff. If this ends with them getting more aid so they can repeat the whole cycle again in a few years I'll be annoyed. We don't have to attack them, but stop enabling them to do what they've been doing for decades now.

The nukes are supposed to start falling "today or tomorrow" so good luck and god bless all.

What is really odd and I'm sure he has said something on this, I just haven't seen any headlines on it , is I don't recall a single comment from Obama on this whole ordeal.

This is coming from a young inexperienced leader who doesnt have any clue how this shit works. He was basically thrown into the position, whereas his father was groomed for many years and didnt take power till around 50 years of age.

Jong un is 29. I think he will realize the position he is really in and tones it down. At some point China is going to have to step up and shut that fat faggot up, because I dont see any other solution. All out war is kind of unrealistic at this point IMO. Russia wont like either so at some oint the international community is going to cave in on DPRK and they will eventually play nice, for a while anyway.

I think he knows exactly what he is doing.

The only way the US and Japan ever negotiate with Korea is when it gets all "Warlike".

They need to give up on this bullshit sanctions over stopping nuclear proliferation in Korea. They already lost that battle. Normalize relations, lift the sanctions, and let things get back to normal over there.

Problem with the crazy dictator strategy is you have to constantly ratchet up your craziness and threats.

Shutting down the Kaesung factory is just dumb. It provides tens of thousands of jobs for NK people, who have no jobs and no economy. It provides cheap labor for the south, who has a massive and thriving economy. The harm to NK is way more than that to SK.

This shit seems to be getting way out of hand now. I'm actually worried they might have a war, and I have lots of friends still living in Seoul.

Well, people with money there are nervous, far more so than when NK shelled that island...lots of far more educated people than myself have said shit is getting dicey over there, more than we know. Their propaganda might have finally come home to roost. They've blamed everything on The West for a while now, and that includes things like the famine, so you've got a crazy angry populace. You've also got a population that is absolutely brainwashed into believing they are technologically and militarily superior to their enemy (The same one that starves their children). Without his father's cult of personality, that's a crazy lot of hate to hold back. Even if he and the other elite know better, it might not be enough, they've really brewed up a powder keg under themselves.
