I think he knows exactly what he is doing.

The only way the US and Japan ever negotiate with Korea is when it gets all "Warlike".

They need to give up on this bullshit sanctions over stopping nuclear proliferation in Korea. They already lost that battle. Normalize relations, lift the sanctions, and let things get back to normal over there.
Why the hell would we roll over for North Korea? With the way it is currently going China will be forced to go in and make him knock this shit off.

I don't want to go full Lumie here but doesn't some of this seem like watch this hand, because some real shit is going on in the other?

EDIT it is just baffling to me how this is tolerated in today's world.

NK is just doing what NK does. China is the real mystery here. They need to pivot to achieving a unified Korea. They've got a new president whosegoals are not very clear. China has been positioning itself to supplant our role as east asian protector for some time, and this could be their opportunity to prove they're willing to back it up. Every time this escalates without a response from China just shows how much our presence is needed.

Following your link there I found that news source to give a lot more info than we see on US main news about NK and china's thoughts on it.
I also found our first strike weapon was delivered to south korea today.

If this goes badly, North Korea would be fucked as a militia of neckbeards and middle-aged fangirls would swim the Pacific to strangle Un in his sleep in revenge.

"east asian protector" - except for the part where they are squabbling with virtually every other country in east Asia: Japan on (Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands), Taiwan (for like, just existing), Vietnam/Philppines/others (Spratly Islands)... The US will be needed there for a while unless China actually becomes "friendly" with those countries.

It's a valid question that has a valid answer. We roll over for NK demands because very simply throwing money at them (even if we have to throw money at them every few years) is still cheaper than deposing them.

Sometimes it's sensible to not get involved in a war which you will not profit from. It's why Regan left Beirut, it's why Clinton's response to the U.S.S. Cole was so very reserved. It's why Clinton conducted air raids in Bosnia. Ignoring the principle in Somalia is one reason that Bush, Sr only had one term and that familial trait is one facet of why his son is widely reviled. No one gives a fuck about the concentration camps beyond hand wringing and writing very stern things in books. No one gives a fuck.

I don't even give a fuck, and I feel like I probably should.

i think a lot of koreans are going to die today

What we're about to see (in order):

1. NK begins firing missles at specific SK targets
2. Special operations NK soldiers will bypass the DMZ via submarine
3. NK sleeper cells will be activated in SK to locate remaining SK infrastructural targets

How the US will respond (in corresponding order):

1. Deliver Aegis group ships to the SK coast
2. Deliver Special operations combat controllers to the North slope of the DMZ mountain range to locate artillery emplacements
3. Batter Pyongyang exclusively with Naval artillery (we're talking Big Mo' style)

First nuclear weapon test Unknown; possible joint nuclear test with South Africa on September 22, 1979

That sounds like post 1973, I don't think they had a fully working nuclear weapon for sure during Yom Kippur.

That's the point. There hasn't been a real no kidding invasion of a country with a fully capable nuclear weapon as of yet has there? I still haven't found one for sure. The previous example of the skirmish technically fits but it's a stretch. It was a week long? fight over a border. Yom Kippur was less than three weeks long and Israel most likely didn't have a nuke ready yet.

I think I just wanted to post that link since I'm almost done reading Kissinger's biography. At the time it was believed that the Jericho I missile carried a nuclear warhead, but since Israel's nuclear program was so secretive its hard to say for sure.

I'm all like "hey guys! I can contribute! I know something"

CNN is reporting that the U.S. intercepted communications from NK indicating that they are planning a missile launch "in the coming days or weeks".

Probably just another test but they sure are going for the attention grabbing headlines

Yeah they could have had nuclear capabilities any time in the 60's I don't think we will ever know.

And more importantly, did Egypt or Syria know?

If you develop nukes for deterrence, you typically want to show them off a bit.
