So right now I've got a Ryzen 5 2600X, a 2060 Super, and a b450 mobo. Assuming I'm gonna go ahead with an upgrade to the 3070, I'm trying to figure out a CPU upgrade sweet spot too. I was surprised to see that $1-200 extra spent on Ryzens would not really get me any noticeable performance gains. Talking a predicted difference of 5-6 fps. Am I overlooking anything here or do I just pull the trigger on the 3300X? Just looking to do the best I can with the mobo I have, not looking to build a whole new rig.

As far as I understand it, I can't upgrade to a 4000 series because it'd need an updated B550 chipset. Intel would require a new motherboard as well.

Not sure why you would bother upgrading anything CPU wise in your situation.

Kind of in the same boat. Have a 2080 RTX sitting in an older mb. Could put the 3080 in it but other system parts would probably bottleneck it somewhat. The 2080 replaced two 980's.

Baring some really cool AMD release I have pretty much decided to wait for the 4000 series and build a new pc around it and whatever top of the line cpu is available then. Get a new MB, etc, the works. GPU's have come a long ways since the 980's came out but cpu's haven't seen as much improvement in that time frame. Building a new pc now would be an upgrade but not a major jump, getting closer though.

Also hoping they can come down on the cooling requirements with the 4000's. The 980's I had were powerful and very quiet (strix). I'm sure they can do some optimization to the new cards with a little work.

Consistently breaking 120fps at 1440p ultra while getting the most out of what I already have for a low price. Upgrading the GPU and CPU would be like a $200 investment.

I wouldn’t put a ton of stock in those theoretical benchmarks. I don’t think the 2600x will be handicapping you as much as that chart suggests. And by what logic do you think you’re upgrading to a 3070 and copping a new CPU for $200?

EVGA step-up program, pay the difference. 3070 drops in October, my upgrade window is until November. $75 upgrade plus the Ryzen around $120.

Thats what im saying - wait till 4000 Ryzen and grab a B550 for like 180.

Was trying to avoid the mobo change but if 4000 series is coming that soon I guess future proofing a little wouldn't hurt. This is all going through a new 60" tv that I doubt I'll be upgrading in the next 5+ years so consistent 1440p/120 is really all I am caring about.

Is there any indication at all when these go on sale yet? Am I going to have to write some bots?

Yeah, and we are probably only like 6-8 weeks away from Ryzen 4000
Also pretty good chance the 4000 series matches Intel's 10 series in gaming performance if not end up slightly faster.

Was chatting with a guy at work about PCs, he’s into Nvidia, gaming, and doing some weird AI algorithm shit. I talked to him about the new cards and he was interested but wasn’t interested in buying them due to not enough RAM for what he does. He has two Quadro RTX 8000’s. I had never even heard of those, what the fuck at that price. He said they were $10,000 each when he bought them. WTF are these algorithms!?
