The issue with Selma was they sent out no screeners and it just opened, barely anybody had seen it. They're portrayal of LBJ is supposed to be pretty fucked as well which neither the director or studio will explain.

There are screeners of Selma that came out the same time as the others. I haven't seen it though, so I have no idea if it deserves a nomination.

I can't possibly fathom how Lego did not make the cut for at least best animated. Further proof the entire industry is just as fucked up as ever.

My kids watch the lego movie twice a week, and I'm still not sick of it.

Did you watch it with your wife?

Did she give you nudges and smiles at certain points where Gone Girl is going crazy?
I did watch it with her and even she was scared of her. We joke around now and when I do something that disappoints her she says she is going to "gone girl" me and then we both shudder and say too far.

Best movie as far as I am concerned. I guess Apes suffers from not being exceptional in any way, it's just a very solid big budget movie, but in this day and age that's sadly pretty exceptional. Edge of Tomorrow is not without its flaws, but that's one of the most refreshing sci-fi action movie in years and that was unexpected.

I am ok with The Grand Budapest Hotel and Whiplash niminations, but can't say much about the other nominees as they have yet to be released around here. Also I have seen better films this year, but none that are eligible. For instance, China's 'A Touch of Sin' and 'Black Coal, Thin Ice': the first was released in the US in late 2013 and the second was in several festivals but never saw an actual release.
Just watched A Touch of Sin and really enjoyed it. Was really good, thanks for posting it. Also have Black Coal but will wait until tomorrow.

Also saw John Wick, The Equalizer, and Whiplash. Whiplash was good and everything about it was well done, but something about how over the top crazy J.K. Simmon's character was just irked me. Maybe I've had too many RL bosses that are like him. On the plus side it introduced me to Melissa Benoist which is great considering certain google searches and the discoveries...

I'm happy Birdman got praise but Gyllenhaal being frowned upon as long as Gilroy with Nightcrawler is a shame. I guess nowadays you can't really make a "TMZ : The Movie" flick without getting lots of hate from Hollywood folks. It's sad because Gyllenhaal, sinceEnemy,PrisonersandEnd of Watchgot himself some nice cred and has become a solid actor.

I think Gone Girl would've been the better Best Picture nom than American Sniper.

Completely agree about Gone Girl, the rest of the movies are typical Oscar bait boring and pretentious.

12 years a slave was utterly forgettable but the SJW arm of the Academy heaped nominations on it last year and I feel this year's so called snub for Selma is a direct result of over praising 12 last year.

Nightcrawler and Lego were both entertaining but Gone Girl was easily my favourite non blockbuster of 2014.

Lego snub make no sense at all. Only thing that makes sense is them trying to create buzz for a shitty ass year. (Great year of movies IMOs

Gone Girl should be best picture for sure.

Finally watched The Lego Movie for the firs time tonight. Yeah that movie was awesome. Not best picture but should be best animated by a long shot.

Haven't seen the rest of the nominated movies yet, but Gone Girl is a work of art from Fincher.

It won't win tho, the Academy loves period pieces etc..Look for something like Selma to win.
