American Sniper wasn't bad, it just wasn't a movie that people will talk about forever. There's much better movies out there right now

This.

I wouldn't go out of my way to tell anyone they have to see it.

Whiplash is still my top pick for 2014. Still have to see Selma, Boyhood, and the Hawking one.

Grand Budapest is definitely my movie of the year but I'm not sure it will win anything. Perhaps a bit too quirky for the Academy.

I don't know what to make of the rest. I enjoyed watching a good number of them but I don't really plan on re-watching any of them soon. Award winners should be at least something I want to watch twice I think.

just caught the Imitation game, it was ok. i think if it was more about enigma and less drama about turing's personal "secret" it would have been much better.

Yeah. It is unfortunate though that when it comes to Turing, the fact he was queer was more important than the fact he made major contributions to the war effort and SCIENCE.

I mean it's a shitty story pretty much all around. It's the kind of story that you don't need to dramatize, just the basic facts are plenty

I don't know about movie of the year. It's a WA flick, which almost guarantees it will be great, but not MOTY great.

just saw gone girl, i'd recommend it to any dudebro out there but imo watch it solo not with your wife/gf. i normally hate chick flicks and don't really like ben affleck but ended up watching this cuz wife wanted to, i actually liked it but the wife fucking HATED it and she was both crying and mad at me and mad at everyone hahaha. i win though, now i get to choose the next few movies we watch together and its gonna be all aliens and robots!!

a bit too long and
its pretty much red pill: the movie

glad its not up for oscar though, was entertaining enough but nothing i'd put up for best picture of the year

I sincerely hope that Grand Budapest wins best picture. Not because I thought that it was an amazing movie. It was most certainly one of my least favorite Wes Anderson movies but because Foxcatcher got snubbed which was certainly the best movies of the year. My personal favorite this year was Interstellar but that's because I'm a time paradox nerd with a hardon for Mathew, Nolan and Hans Zimmer.

I can't grasp why Lego Movie isn't up there. We need a "response to the oscars" that pops their balloon.

Add another disappointment to my 2014 movies list. Watched Wild last night. I have no idea why Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern were nominated. Reese basically played the same flat self-absorbed character she always does, and Dern just seemed forgettable.

I might be jaded because I went in expecting a good movie about hiking and instead got a terrible movie about a narcissist who destroys the life of everyone around her despite them all acting incomprehensibly nice towards her. This movie had nothing to do with hiking.

LOL my sister in law asked my brother if he wanted to watch a movie about hiking and said it was that movie. He just laughed at her until she was ashamed and then had her look it up.

Gaby Hoffmann could cut her hair, wear a suit, and pass as Mr Bean.

I never even heard of Whiplash until like a week ago. I desire to know more.

For me Grand Budapest Hotel was the best movie I saw all year. Birdman was pretty damn close, though.

Watch Whiplash. So good.

I just started watching Boyhood and the child actors are already pissing me off. Patricia Arquette's titties make it better, sorta.

Can anyone name an actress that went from hot to holy shit ugly as significantly as Patricia Arquette has? I mean, I know she got older, but holy hell.

Boyhood was boring as shit, why? i watched it w/o the gimmick, as in every minute i told myself, "don't think about this being filmed over 12 years", and you know what i got? a shittier wonders years in 2 hours, with drunk retards and "cool bro dad" ethan hawke every 33minutes.

It's actually 3 hours. As far as the kids, once they got to be about 10 or so they were less grating. Really though, the first hour of the movie is tough to get through.

If it weren't for the gimmick though, you're absolutely right, it's just not a very good movie.

It sounds like you went in determined to dislike it and succeeded.
