Yeah I don't think the MMR has reset or decayed so you are probably overplaced now. The overall skill level, especially at high plat and low diamond, seems much higher now than it was a few seasons ago.

f16 pilot.. jelly. got my PPL last month bout to check out ATP for CFII.
5 games today i start off as moira and the otehr healer is zen/ana/lucio while the otehr team is mercy/moira, and we end up losing until i swap to mercy after first round and carry us with dat res. hate feeling forced to have a mercy but the ult is just frequent and op

This isn't very surprising and happens with other games. I'd say it probably has to do with streaming becoming more prevalent and some people in the industry making streams to explain stuff behind the process to gamers directly, rather than have forum posts from a community manager who's just typing what he's told to type. This happens with Hearthstone and Ben Brode also, or with Yoshida and FFXIV for example. It's the same concept as when people like actors from movies they like I think, so not sure I get why it's creepy. Cringy sure, but it's all fairly normal, especially with younger audiences.
