1. Don't hesitate to make an early base, do stuff, then move it to a better place.
2. Bases are balanced between local resources, being flat and having a defensive position; there's no optimal place (there's a neat place next to the low-level Chillet Alpha in the starting hills on a mesa accessed through a single bridge, totally impregnable, good starting resources, but meh terrain).
3. Forget about those mega-bases you see all over Youtube; they're only for the end-game.
4. Do not hesitate to sell ASAP any pal with negative traits. You'll find enough to replace them (similarly, if you want to buy a pal, never buy one without good traits or with a negative one, even to complete your collection).
5. Eggs. Eggs everywhere. Collect and hatch.
6. Camps. Camps everywhere. Invade and "free" those sad pals.
7. Get any flying mount asap. It changes your life.
8. Breeding is fun, just make sure you have a few incubators in cooler places and a few next to a campfire or similar.
9. If you can't capture a Beegarde for that sweet honey at your ranch, don't worry. Harvest the dropped honey after they explode and breed one from more... tractable pals (easy low-level ones: Eikthyrdeer + Fuddler; Melpaca + Tanzee; Hoocrates + Tombat).

And that's pretty much it. You can also have a look at maps, like Palworld Interactive Map to figure out useful stuff. There are a few unique pals located on those islands you see in the distance, but make sure you have enough stamina to get there.
Thanks these have been great tips.

Well it's faster than the early game flying pals but it's the slowest of the midgame fliers. One more level and you would have been able use a Beakon instead. If you want something better to tide you over until you're ready to go for Jetragon (or just get bored and quit), do the following.

Step 1) Capture Nitewings until you find one with the passive Swiftness (30% move speed bonus)

Step 2) Breed your swift Nitewing with a Pyrin, Elizabee, Warsect, or Quivern until you get a swift Ragnahawk (1300x1.3=1690 compared to the 1100 of a Helzephyr). There are a couple other Nitewing combos that will result in a Ragnahawk but the 4 I listed are the ones you can easily get at your current level. Elizabees are easy to find, Warsect and Quivern are guaranteed Alpha spawns, or a Pyrin can be found by flying around the lava areas picking up random eggs.

If you don't mind a little tedium or are just bored, Faleris is one level higher to craft the saddle than Ragnahawk and is the fastest pre-Jetragon mount (1400 base compared to 1300 on Ragnahawk) but it only has a single breeding combination that isn't Falerisx2, Anubis+Vanwyrm. Anubislaves have about a trillion breeding combinations and are extremely good base workers so it's worth breeding a few even if you aren't planning to go for a Faleris. I'm not gonna bother trying to rattle off common Anubis combos, just go to Palworld Breeding Calculator and Breeding Combinations and click 'find all combinations for a Pal', Anubis will already be selected so browse to see what combo(s) you have that can churn a few out.

For the Vanwyrm you can either spam capture Vanwyrms until you find one with swiftness or else do the same with a Nitewing and then breed it with a Eikthyrdeer Terra, Melpaca, or Dumud until you get a swift Vanwyrm and then breed it with the Anubis until you get a swift Faleris (1820 speed).

It may seem like a lot of work but considering how much time you spend flying around in this game it's worth the time spent. A swift Ragnahawk or Faleris will fly circles around a regular Helzephyr.

The patent angle seems odd because the patents in question appear to be gameplay mechanics. Like one seemingly describes getting on a flying mount and it transitioning from flying mount to ground mount depending on where you are (which is literally every game in existence with flying mounts that can run on the ground).

This comes across as legal fee bullying - Nintendo has far more financial resources. They know they don't need to win, they just need to drain the finances of whoever it is they are suing.

edit: They only patented this in 2024. Not sure how that stands up since games had this mechanic going back decades

Wow the wording on that is rough.

Flying mounts in WoW seem super obvious as prior art that would disqualify such a retarded patent.

only thing I can think of is that it is specific to Japan. Japan has some odd ball laws, one I learned about recently is the defamation laws in Japan are pretty fucked up.

Even in Japan there are other companies who had gameplay mechanics like the ones described in these dumb recent patents

Pretty sure Sony has more clout and money than Nintendo over there

As I understand it, this is the reason. Could still see some copyright components.

These guys didn't even have source control when this released, wonder if they ever got around to hiring a general counsel.

They literally patented trapping animals as a video game mechanic months after pal world releases just to sue them with it. Fuck Nintendo tbh. I could understand if they had to defend some old IP but it's another thing to file attack patents, especially considering they never should have been issued, then suing a company.

It doesnt matter how valid the patents are . They mean to drain palworld of cash till they have to give in

They spents months since release just waiting to trip them up. Nintendo is the most dinosaur driven old fucks in history and love to shut down everything related to what they do.

Yup, it ends up being win-win for Nintendo on the surface

Nintendo wins: The Palworld studio loses money
Nintendo loses: The Palworld studio loses money

However, I would argue that if Nintendo actually won, this would end up being the patent equivalent of a salted nuke. Now you'll see all major publishers and studios patenting basic video game mechanic shit that has existed for decades, which will ultimately stifle innovation and kill the entire market in the long run. Granted this is in Japan (I would hope this shit is illegal in the US), but I can't see letting Nintendo literally torpedo every fucking game in existence with after-the-fact patents going over well with companies like Sony, Capcom, SquareEnix, etc. You'd have a patent arms race over there.

Alternate view, games companies just leave Japan and dev in places that aren’t retarded. I’d bet money this patent would be rejected by the US. But that won’t matter for palworld or anyone else based in Japan I guess.

You guys are all bitching about this single patent being new, but the lawsuit is for like 28 of them if I recall correctly, are they all new or just this one? Lots of unknowns still to even begin to know if they have a legit case or not. I assume they do since they are said to never lose or what not.

Nintendo loses lawsuits all the time. They are basically the gaming studio equivalent of a prison troll suing every time they stub their toe on a door and accidently form a charcoal deposit. They are super notorious for hyper abusing dmca as an example.

Where was it said it was 28 patents? First I've heard of a solid number or even a guess that high
