Man this thread has gone a bit too negative for even me. I understand the disappointment and frustration, but this has just turned into a shit show the last couple of pages.
ironically we aren't the ones who originally showed the shit as you say

Funny the amount of over analyzing that takes place here. Young Miss Cleo's up in here predicting doomsday/unemployment/wife-aggro/failure.. Serious lack of positivity here.

Oldschool style game has a chance of releasing, something we all have wanted, yet get's bashed? Pls continue I am having fun reading this

I am pretty positive about the project. How much money have we thrown at other MMOs already? If there is even a decent chance that Brad will create what could be his crowning achievement, I for one am willing to take that chance. If it doesn't work out, what have you lost? A few bucks that would have probably been wasted to something else?
Yeah, I'm still in. My hopes of a successful funding dwindle by the day, but I'll keep my pledge in until the end, and if it doesn't get funded, then I'll just use some of that money to up my Kingdom Come: Deliverance pledge. I really want this project to happen. I know they haven't handled the Kickstarter very well, but I still want to give them the chance.

It just seems like this thread went from a lot of harsh (but reasonable) criticism to some old school flame war shit with personal attacks abound. Really disappointing.

Most of the people here have contributed. Hundreds in fact have pledged and have not pulled their pledges.

Well it is a lot easier to treat someone like shit than it is to be nice. People like easy.
true.

oddly, people liking easy is also the problem with MMOs today. hm.

Like all MMO development threads, it ebbs and wanes. While I agree it's overly negative right now, I'd rather run off the blindly optimistic first and then tell the overly whiny to shut the hell up.

I, like many here, am on the fence and have hesitated so far to pledge. I nearly did on day 1, but wanted to get some more concrete information, and haven't exactly seen that come to life yet.

Insert some "you've got 30 days" kind of rant here.

I'm looking at the $250 pledge amount or the $375, but I believe the company I work for might preclude me from being able to - will have to shoot them an email about that qualification. I don't work in the games or even software division, but who knows.

But, for me to get involved, I need to see something, details, information, concrete stuff. Not just "hey, this is a cleric that you've seen a million times before." Etc etc.

Lol, indeed. Yet this is the place for those who don't like MMOs to be easy.

I'd argue it's harder to be mean. Making up names, clever insults and spending energy to keep up with an e-fight is a lot more work than just ignoring someone.

People can't overcome the feeling of nostalgia. And I get it, I too was a victim to it. These people will bash everything until it's exactly what they want, can't make them happy. Can't change their minds, too closed off and only want that one thing.

However, the old school rule-sets did have merits due to forced community interaction, consequences, which ultimately made the game feel more realistic, thus creating an immersive experience. This game is going to show these traits. Brad hates instancing. Harsh death penalties. May as well rally behind this shit from these ideas alone. And if it doesn't get done? You get your money back or at least you put it towards a cause you had a spec of belief in.

I think what really was discouraging was seeing Kingdom Come pop up out of nowhere and look far more organized. We've been waiting on this shit since what, September? And it just doesn't seem to have all its ducks in a row right now. Like everyone else, I'm just echoing that they needed to be talking about this stuff constantly and giving design details and a plan. We've had too much "wait for the X" and then the X is very underwhelming. I'm not being doom and gloom or shitting on it, but I'm saying that the KS has been pretty poorly done, alongside with a lack of much information.

Anyone can say they are going to create an old school MMO in the same vein as EQ. Saying and doing are two different things though. And there is nothing on the 'doing' part that gives any indication that they would be successful in what they are saying.

you need to realize people aren't bashing this hypothetical game, nor the broader concept it embodies, but the strategy, or lack thereof to bring it to fruition. I'm in for 500 ATM, and want this to work out, but that doesn't mean I cant be pragmatic, critical, or even mean spirited when I watch this sloppy clusterfuck unfold.

Again, it is not that the thread has turned negative per say but the fact that we are getting bits of information and it is being review upon release. Sure, you have to filter out some of the posts but primarily, as information is release, it just isn't sitting well with this community. For this thread to not be "negative" you have to give us something that we find worth applauding. You can't expect to appreciate information that is below expectation. Honestly, I don't even think expectations are all that high but rather people are looking for consistency and creativity similar to EQ/VG.

The reason Brad isn't posting as much here is because he's is trying to work a lot of different audiences and i'm sure if he finds and audience more receptive, he's going to communicate more with that audience. Let's face it, he doesn't get much encouragement here without delivering the goods. Let's review, discusses fixes, and what needs to be done from here.

1. Release a Kickstarter with legitimate in-game shots. If none is available concept art. Do not put factory/stock assets in your released shots. If you are wanting to show the art direction, anyone can google the Unity engine and it's assets. Thus, simply place and link and reference the engine.
2. Do not continually admit you're still learning. Pose as the professionals at minimum. Display you've done your research. Kickstarter is nothing new. VR has repeatedly played their "we're learning" card. Learning what? You made Everquest? VG? Your team has years and years of experience and you're telling me you don't know how your target (niche) audience, which you chose by the way, works?
3. Cart before the horse. Why are we talking about the game when you need funding for a studio? salaries? etc. I know you want to show off a game that you want to make and that's supposed to encourage us to help you gain a place of employment but why even discuss it? I'm all for transparency but it is hard to focus on the game when there's no place to make it. I don't know the details but VR are the people bringing this up. It is distracting. Your stretch goals are all game based.. shouldn't you worry about being able to pay rent? If we are going to talk game, let's talk game. If you want my money for an office, show me what you want in terms of an office. What are we raising money for here? Should we be talking classes or how many computers you need an their specs?

Ok.. let's move forward.
1. Let's figure out what we are talking about. If we are talking about the game, let's talk about the game. Classes, races, combat, dungeons, etc. If you're having work so hard to get out information relevant to these points, and yes, I feel that it has been rushed, you started your own timer when you opened the KS.
2. Get the community more involved. To avoid Dark Knight issues, have your team pick a list of names, ask what we would like to see, and make it so. If a name doesn't matter, then why maintain the control and assume all the risk?
3. Be very specific. Lore week is a good idea in essence but bad timing. I care about lore but not right now. However, I like how you have went specific. I know what to expect this week and that keeps the information hungry people at bay. Knowing is so much better than speculating what we'll see next. It sucks that it will be lore this week but maybe you need the week to get other things ready.

Those are just some really quick thoughts and there is still time to make this happen but this has to change course and VR needs to act like they made games before and then have interacted with the gaming community.

It probably comes down to who makes a better video. Does it have enough flashy stuff to grab your attention? No? Man, its probably going to be crap then. Never mind that there really isn't enough of the game to show that would fill up more than a few seconds of video.

This was your first post. In no way did you contribute to a valid reasoning for why a person should do what you were criticizing a poster for doing. Instead you are /telling a person what they should do with their money for this KS. Your first post "Screamed" Shill. Now all your posts are defending it. I am not religious or have I read the bible, so I honestly did not recognize the name.

In short, you attacked first......
who the fuck are you and why are you shitting up this thread?

@etchazz I think everyone should be in at 20 or 45 just to show support for old school ish MMOs. If it looks like they're close on day 38 or 39, I'd up the pledge not because I think they can deliver but again, just to show the other eyes out there watching the kickstarter that there us sufficient interest.

I dropped down from the $250 tier to the $45 tier... Mostly because of my dissatisfaction with how fleshed out their concept is, but also because that lifetime sub isn't looking appealing any more. I'm waiting on more specifics on class abilities, player interaction, combat system, and the dungeon experience before I bump back up to $250.

If I don't get that info, I stay at $45 until the end.
