I think this has proven that indeed, there is no more market for a classic EQ clone. I'm pretty sure the last groups of people who give a shit about that era of MMORPGs are located here at rerolled and on P99. It's probably about 10,000 people, and not nearly enough to sustain a studio-backed project. So yes, Brad was our only hope for an EQ throwback game to get made. Unfortunately, he dropped the ball and then farted on it.

Now, is there a market for a difficult MMORPG with a high degree of social interaction whose systems are more attractive to the post 2005 MMOgamer? That's a different question entirely, and i think the answer is 'yes'.

You can be a developer on the ground level! Be on the conference call during meetings for only double the base charge!

Dark Soul comes to mind but it's not an MMO. It also has encounters that are "fixed" against you like something that lunges out of a hole in the wall and knocks you off a cliff. Encounters that you can't defend yourself against, you die and know to jump over the hole next time around. It isn't what I call a fair game.
