I posted over at my old VG guild, Brotherhood of the Spider. (Organization DROW - A Worldwide Legion of Powergamers)

If any of the older Drow members lurk on this board, you might spread the word.
Ya I just posted on my Old eq guild HATE but they were more PvP focused. Still some might have interest.

I just swung by some of the old guilds website who I used to play with (Ascending dawn, Wudan, Pandemonium, Township Rebellion and my SK site Evilgamer.net. None of these sites have any mention of this game and they are all avtive in EQ or An EMU.

Word has not spread far yet

I like the Kickstarter concept for this, and think the game "evolving" with time will make it better. It's been discussed before - Verant didn't design pulling, twinking, power leveling, quadding, kiting, etc. in to EQ, the players discovered it.

Unplanned encounters are some of my best memories of EQ. I remember a low level bard stuck under a ladder (?) in Guk playing his EB song begging for someone to help him out - a simple port over, group and evac him out - I just made his day. I've read many stories here of guilds breaking Fear to help others retrieve their corpses.

I hope going in to a dungeon involves risk, and is not something done lightly because all death means is a respawn at the entrance and a repair fee.

....but what *I* can tell you with absolute accuracy is that actively moving out of stuff added a wonderful layer of interactivity for my personal taste.
You mean kinda like EQ had, but without the floor telegraphs that become their own little arcade-style mini game that only really work (as currently implemented) in third-person? Are there no better ways to do this kind of thing than creating a game of frogger in fire?

The unfinished state was a direct result of mismanaging the funding. How can you blame him for the reason but not the result?
This is exactly why I keep beating the dead horse to Brad that he needs someone other than himself as Producer. There are a lot of people on the sidelines who like Brad the Designer but don't trust Brad the Producer because of VG. VG had sufficient money (30 million) to ship product: but its scope grew out of bounds, so Sigil ran out of money.

I believe Brad has learned his lesson about scope creep - that's why I gave him my $250. But there's a lot more folks like Hateyou than like me. So Brad, please for the love of Pete, hire someone else as a Producer and focus on designing us a great game.

/aside

I forgot who said it - but anyone who thinks that we "pseudo-investors" can't actually make money of this thing, is dead wrong. If the game is successful anyone at the Lifetime Sub tier and above could resell their Sub account for more than they bought it (excepting anyone who bought in at the 10k tier). So at that $250 - $1000 level it's less of a "burn some money" and more of a gamble.

Edit: And really, the more I think about it the more I think you should remove mini-maps for most classes but give a basic mini-map w/ tracking info on it to Rangers and (same basic mini-map but less good tracking) to Druids (minimap is outdoors only of course).

I don't want capoeira in-game -_- The only floated idea I haven't liked are the floor telegraphs.

At the same time he's on kickstarter just trying to raise the bare minimum to get the project off the ground so is it really a great idea to bring another guy on board who's going to demand a $100k a year salary?

Lol. No, presumably he can find someone willing to do it on the cheap just like the rest of the crew ;-) I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm currently debating on internal guild boards with ex-VG people who were fans of VG but are still annoyed at its shape of release and who, correctly IMHO, blame Brad for its condition at release, trying to convince them to fork over just $20 or $45.

Here's the problem and there is no getting around it. This game is being designed for a generation that played EQ back in 1999. Well, the average age of people who played EQ at that time I'd say was probably 18-20. It's 15 years later. That same player is probably in his mid to late 30's now. The odds are is that player doesn't have the time commitment anymore to invest in that type of game.

This is the boat I'm in. I'd love to see a game like EQ again. But I'm also very realistic, knowing I'll never play that game for any long length of time due to time. Plus, I just don't have that kind of patience anymore. I don't think it's a reach that a good majority are like me, especially on this forum. The second obstacle this game is going to have is everyone has an idea of what defines 'hardcore' and believe it or not, those ideas are not the same. Everyone has this romanticized idea of what Everquest was but I think it varies greatly depending on who you ask.
The thing about EQ was that someone could play it sparingly and enjoy it for a year before getting to cap with tons of engaging and fun content available before the level cap. There will be players at a higher level than you with much better equipment, but that's fine, it gives you something to shoot for and it allows the players to be different instead of everyone wearing the same quested items and instanced dungeon/raid items one month after release. In the off chance that you do get some time over a holiday or something you could make a run for a few levels and finally get in that dungeon and get that hard to get item and really appreciate it.

He's heard your shit, drop it and in three years if things go poorly you can smugly claim that if only he followed your advice everything would be great.

Doesn't help that the site owner and overlord dismissed it.
Yes thats why they need to get Noel, or Brad or Dan onto those sites and explain wht Pantheon is a great idea!

They need to sell it hard. Tell them why were trying to get back to a social experience. Tell them why risk vs reward is important.

It`s much more news worthy if a member of the team gets out there and does this.

Get on reddit and get people talking ect.

I agree, with the Kickstarter being launched you NEED to do an AMA on Reddit. It would be your best chance at publicity.

you're not alone. as much as i want this game to succeed, i'm still on the fence about giving money. as gamers, we support the industry by purchasing finished products. it shouldn't be our job to foot the bill to create the game. i wouldn't give a car company money for a car that wasn't built, nor would i pay $300 for a dinner before it was served.
Normally I would agree. The thing is, a lot of us have asked numerous developers of any new MMO that was coming out, not to make it easy. We all gave input to what we wanted, and none of them listened. I wonder how many emails Brad has gotten over the years to bring back the style of playing we had in EQ?

-Brad "Aradune Mithara" McQuaid"Hello,

I get a lot of emails every day from people I?ve never met. With few exceptions, they all share the same theme and message: take today?s tech, take what you?ve learned (good and bad, from your successes and failures), and bring us a new MMO that gives us the same feeling and memories your earlier games did. I try to answer them all, thanking the person for the email, and also letting them know that I agree with where they?re coming from.

Finally, however, I can announce that I?m done just listening. But I?m going to need your help too. Yes, all of you who?ve emailed, tweeted, posted, and more? the time has come to build this dream we?ve shared."

So, he listened, and it least this is a start of getting it going. Hopefully there are other avenues for funding the game later. I myself am backing it. No one out there is making my game right now, but him and the Visionary Realms team.

How many games have started out with grand ideas turn out to release with only a quarter of them realized, especially MMO's? Now we're doing that again, with Brad (and all his history) behind it?
I hope they're doing this. I hope they have a wide scope that they realize may or may not be attainable, ala the stretch goals format, and are concentrating on building the necessary core. I don't see them promising water content. I see them promising a good core to the game that may one day be able to incorporate water content.

I think I liked this thread more when we all thought we knew everything about game design. That was at least based in people's personal hopes and dreams and took some level of creative thought. Now, people are just either stating the obvious over and over or taking the easiest thought-process to shit on the shit we all already know exists.

That relationship you just started? Chance are it will fail. That restaurant that just opened? Chances are it will fail. That favorite politician that just entered whatever race? Chances are they will lose. Those eggs you just bought could give you salmonella. That chick could have a dick. That car could break down. And yes, Brad can personally, on all his own, botch this project too and/or Pantheon can never make release.

Being pessimistic because it's the easiest thing to think of is lazier and far less charming than people pontificating on their shitty ideas to make a dream mmo. Someone is now making an mmo most of us have been hoping for and bitching for years needs to be made. Give them a fucking chance before you declare the project dead, especially when the criticism isn't at all inspired. At least Ut always had inspired, specific criticism.
