I wasn't upset by the event. I know shit happens, and it'll happen her entire life. This was just the first time she's ever cried over what another child told her. I felt bad for her, but I understand that's part of life. So I told her a way to make it not matter what other people say so she can continue on with her life.

I don't really think that's helicopter parenting. Who knows. Maybe having anything but a complete hands off approach is considered to be?

Not really, and I'm not really trying to criticize you guys, sorry if it came off that way. I do think there needs to be a fair amount of "take a step back, let your child experience life" and we insulate them too much these days. You guys kids are little so they are still your babies and you feel really protective. Thats a great thing, no criticism at all.

So kid officially has ADHD - combined type, ODD, and "generic depressive mood disorder". The reason for that is the Dr didn't want to diagnose my kid with bipolar because it is so rare in kids her age, she has seen it literally one time. So it could be just depression or it could be bipolar, we will see. Now we have to get her into a shrink who will see her.

Yeah. They have to fie-tune the meds too because meds for ADHD are stimulants which can trigger manic episodes, IF she has bipolar disorder. Which she is doubtful of, but it is possible.

They want us to do therapy and stuff too but they want her behavior more controlled first. The psychiatrist they recommended has a 3 month wait list, so we're looking around.

My guess is ODD + ADHD...You can trust this diagnosis because I completed a fellowship in Internet Medicine and I'm applying for an attending position.
I think I'm going to open my own Internet Medicine practice.

Went to my brothers wedding rehearsal and dinner tonight and brought the kid because he's usually awesome. Screamed his head off the entire time. Like 3 hours straight. Never happened before and he stopped as soon as we got in the car. No idea what the fuck happened.

My kid was like that too, had the stranger danger when he was about six months old. Did not care for loud environments either. At 10 months he fell asleep in his stroller at va wedding reception.

There's an app called the wonder weeks that gives a good approximation of what to expect week by week with a kid and breaks them down in leaps. My kid is in leap 7. He'll learn sequences, like spoon goes in bowl, spoon goes in mouth. It's been pretty helpful so far.

Changed my second diaper ever this past week and nailed it, even the part about folding the front down. Incidentally, I never imagined a 20 month old could pinch such a mighty loaf but there it was. Adjusted for a toddler scale, that sumbitch was probably 3-4 Courics.
