Yes, it isn't like "she's sad" it is clinical depression, brain chemical imbalance. Or maybe not, idk, I just want these fucking people to agree. But if you read about depression in young children, how she acts out is exactly how they describe depressed kids acting out.
Yeah I didn't know it could manifest so young, was just curious.

I thought about putting my daughter's up here, but it is like a 14 page report with multiple evaluations. I was really happy with the psychologist's evaluation, she explained in detail how they got the numbers and what they mean. Now it is in the hands of psychiatrists who,a t least so far, seem to value their judgement over the testing that i broke my ass, begged and pleaded, and spent a ton of money getting. Not that I'm bitter.

Did the report have recommendations? If so, either get a second opinion or be more forceful with him. Within reason he's the one who has to answer to you, not the other way around.

and yeah the ritalin should take at least a month to start working. Any change you see before then is probably just wishful thinking.

Yeah they had several recommendations. The first and most important was they recommended medication. Then they want the psychiatrist to rule out either bipolar or some other depressive disorder, and once she is stabilized group therapy.

Well if they're immediately following the first and most important recommendation, why do you think they're navigating by feels instead of instead of the report?

Because the psychiatrist was so quick to blowoff the depression diagnosis, in full. Like, I have 14 pages of data that a psychologist says indicates very strongly she has depression, strongly enough that she was willing to diagnose it in a 5 year old. The psychiatrist meets with her for 1 hour and says she doesn't buy that. That's exactly the kind of thing I was worried would happen with these doctors.

You sure about that? Ritalin is just a stimulant, it doesn't require a lot of time to kick in. Like 30 minutes-1 hour. It's not like prozac or such that needs a certain time to build up levels.

It was my experience as a child and also my experience both times I've gone on adderall as an adult.

Psychiatrist told us it takes an hour or so to kick in and should be completely out of her system 4 hours after that. But I don't know what to expect really.

Ok, maybe it's because I don't have ADHD but I took some to study once and I was like stupidly focused and awake for like 10 hours taking 1/2 of 1 pill. It kicked in really fast.

So I have concerns about Ritalin is the crashing. Maybe look into a combination of medication, as we ended up doing. We give our youngest a small dose of Strattera every day, and that keeps him even keeled when the Vyvanse wears off. Prior to that, the wear off period was fucking ugly. Angry crash every day at 4 or so. It took us roughly 8 months to get all the doses and such right, but there were immediate improvements at school, even before the Strattera.

Keep working on it, man. You'll get it right and your kid will become happy with herself again, and that will be amazing for her, as well as for you and your wife.

My daughter just turned 1. She survived the following: two dog bites, two bed falls and several butt rashes!!
parenthood is awesome.

Ritalin is some nasty stuff. My mother and father took in a foster kid when I was younger. A friend of theirs (who was trying to beat drugs and got her kid taken away) son. He was diagnosed with depression and prescribed ritalin. That shit fucked that kid up. He was a zombie. Empty eyes, devoid of any and all emotion, we used to catch him hitting himself with shit over and over again and just going "ow" while he stared at a wall. When they finally took him off it he was a rush of returning emotion and seemingly couldn't control them for a while. Wailing crying for no apparent reason. Hysterical laughter at nothing. Lasted like that for about 2 weeks until he returned to "normal".

Probably fucked up from his mom taking drugs while pregnant. Did you cook the dogs and serve them to her lendarios? It is only just.

Ritalin legit does help for some people, but it is far too often given to people that don't fall into that group.

He was definitely fucked up from that. But he lived with us for 2 years and when he was on the ritalin it was just eerie, creepy and weird, and for about 2 weeks after coming off of it he was straight out of an 80s horror flick. Then he went back to just being a regular old crack baby kid.

Ritalin is serious shit. There are so many options now, though.

Today was a testimony as to why our son is on the meds he's on. Through a series of fucking ridiculous circumstances, his meds ran out, and he had to go to school without his morning vyvanse. We sent a note to the teacher telling her, and when I talked to her this afternoon she said she was glad we had. He wasn't a monster, or mean, or anything like that, but he seemingly could not help himself from speaking out of turn, from getting off topic, and generally being unfocused. He came home miserable with himself because he knew he didn't do a good job, and he couldn't understand why not. We've explained about the meds, but it's hard for a 7 year old to grasp it.
