So, my daughter's first day at her new school. The teacher told me she had some issues during the day but overall it was a good day. At one point she said she threw a fit and was "inserting things" but she stopped her and the day rolled on.

At 630 tonight I was watching Steven Universe with ?the girls and had fallen asleep on the couch when I hear a knock on the door. It was CPS investigating the possible sexually abuse of our daughter. Jesus fucking christ. She seemed like she understood everything that was going on and this was just a formality thing but who knows. I kind of want to just go to sleep for about 3 weeks right about now.

Ok so for you guys who are parents and might deal with CPS someday, I know I'm a lawyer so you'll say it pays my profession to be overly antagonistic, but you should treat CPS workers exactly like you would treat cops:

Do not talk to them. Do not let them in. Do not let them interview your kids. If they have a court order (or can get one) to interview your kids they'll have a cop with them and won't let you stop them. Deny them entry to your home, if they have probable cause or a warrant they won't let you stop them.

When CPS is "interviewing you" to "clear this up" what they actually are doing is looking for evidence to charge you with something.

DO NOT TALK TO THEM. Deny them the evidence they need to charge you with something and they will eventually close the case.

"But I am innocent, I did nothing" you say. A lot of people who are in prison probably said the same thing while they were cooperating with crooked ass cops.

"If I just talk to them it will get closed out quicker" yea, and you might go to prison quicker too.

They are not working in your best interests, they are "debatably" working in the best interests of your child. But basically what they are doing is looking for evidence of abuse so they can charge you. Deny them this, deny them any interaction, tell them to go away and close the fucking door.

Treat them like you would a cop at your door.

Public service announcement.

Yes, we had CPS show up after my daughter had all her issues and cutting and we did the stonewall thing 100%. They were disappointed but it went away. We looked into ombudsman also and told them that. The CPS rep understood and had said it was a formality also.

I didn't obviously, I don't know, we have so much documentation of issues and doctors and school shit and whatever I guess I just figured it was a formality and no big deal. But you're probably right, I probably should have done that. It never even occured to me.

I'm sure its fine chaos, just giving you the public service announcement for later. It's one of those things that most of the time it's fine, lots of people have perfectly normal interactions with CPS just like a lot of people have normal interactions with cops. Then there's that one that shoots you on the side of the road for blinking too many times.

Tells a guy he's on an express train to jail. Says he's sure in this one case it'll be fine, though. #JustCadThings

Curious. The brain is a mysterious thing in the way it manifests behavior. I need to read back into the thread some more. Best of luck, chaos.

It's depressing that a lawyer will say that CPS should be treated like crooked cops. Good people like chaos and a_skeleton_03 (or me, if I were in their shoes I'd do the same thing probably) stonewalling CPS makes it easier for bad people to stonewall CPS, which hides real child abuse.

Sorry you don't understand how police agency interactions work bro. Suggest you visit the cops who go on paid leave thread.

CPS is no different than any other police agency, they aren't social workers, they are enforcement agents. They gather evidence to make cases. Thats their job. If you want to be their next case, by all means, invite them in and let them see everything.

No I agree with you but it's just funny how dire sounding you are then chaos is like "oh shit what did I do". Then you try to comfort him by claiming that it's probably not THAT bad, nah don't worry about it.

Because in all likelihood any given interaction if you are honest will turn out fine? It's the ones that go wrong where something "looks" bad but isn't or where you have a rogue agent or an ex or a teacher or someone who has it out for you that you need to know your rights and exercise them.

You let your kid cross the street alone? Most of the time it'll be fine. But that one time it's not...

What about changing her wardrobe to make it harder access for her, maybe that will help?

We're working on that, she likes to wear PJs fucking everywhere and my wife allows that because she has some weird belief that it is ok as long as it's weather appropriate because we are letting her be comfortable and express herself. Fuck that, that's for college, for now we teach this child the crushing, authoritarian reality of conformity. Dress like everyone else god dammit.

She saw another psychiatrist today, who agrees with our psychologist about the depression and thinks the other psychiatrist we saw is looney tunes. Also immediately took her off ritalin and put her on 20mg Adderal once daily. Also, he said don't worry about the CPS thing, that literally the overwhelming majority of parents who have kids with the problems ours have have had one or more investigations from CPS, it is a standard thing and the Dr will be in contact with them. Doesn't make me feel 100% better but better enough.

I worry about her crashing when the Adderol wears off. You should look at a low dose of Strattera to supplement. It won't necessarily help in the same way the Adderol does, but it might prevent crashes if she gets them. Look for the start of a change in personality around 3 PM.

Good luck, man.

My youngest is about to lose both front teeth on the top at the same time. He's already lost one of the bottom fronts. We're serving nothing but apples for food to see how he works it out.
