So our baby turned 5 months two days ago. She was quite small every time we took her to the doctor. The last time was around the first of January but my wife has stopped breastfeeding since then and the baby has gotten pretty fat in the past month and 5 days or so off of formula. We usually give her 32 oz. a day and think she's about 12 lbs now, which really seems small when doing some googling. At her 4 month check up though she was only 23.5 inches long and weighed 10 lbs. So she was still pretty small. It's kind of mind blowing how much bigger she looks within just a month. I don't think she grew too much in length in the past month, but we've been told but other people with babies that she looks chunky. I'm sure it's normal, just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation with their kids. Thanks.
I don't think you can overfeed babies. If they'll eat it, feed them. They are growing at a ridiculous rate, and they're supposed to. Feed that bitch.

It might have been a supply issue for your wife, which sort of sucks. The health benefits for feeding for baby are still pretty big... try to keep doing formula and breast milk if you can.

From like 6 months on our daughter was always in the 90th+ percentile for height, weight, and head size... so even though she had a huge head at least she was proportionate!

She will be 3 in July and she towers over a lot of three-four year olds in her playschool and play groups we take her to. We were at the park in the fall and this girl who was a lot smaller than my daughter was talking like a 20 year old and I thought my kid was really delayed but then I found out this girl was like 4.

Yeah, my daughter is tiny, she has the benefit of being the first born (and as such she had a ton of extra attention for developing language processing early on), and she's pretty smart (from what other people tell us). But she's also pretty small on the scale. She has friends that are bigger than her by a large margin and friends that are older than her, and it's hilarious to see her speaking with them.

Also, from a developmental stand point, we had her doing sign language starting at 7 months old (as in we were teaching her and focusing on it), holy shit was it amazing to have her sign what she wanted. We went from contemplating suicide from her colic to amazing friends and family when she flat out signed everything she needed. By 1 year she was able to form complete thoughts via sign language and knew ~100 different signs/words. We did the baby signing time DVD series with all 3 kids, though the oldest had the biggest benefit because it was just her and the dog fighting for our attention.

I think I posted this before but our youngest weighed in at 2835 grams at birth, somewhere around 15th percentile. At five months old she checked in at 8450 grams, 95th percentile. Holy fuck that kid exploded somewhere between 1 and 4 months old.

Her sister, our first kid, always scraped around between 5th and 25th percentile, only made it to 50th percentile at 3 years old.

The little one won't be having those problems. And when she went through a weekend of shitting and puking in january, having some stuffing surely helped her get through.

My wife was big into "omg what percentile is she in?" with our daughter. My theory was that so long as she was on the chart it was all good. The pediatrician would be the first to let us know if there was reason to be concerned.

It felt like my daughter was always growing out then up. So one visit she'd be a high percentile on height but low on weight, next visit just the opposite.

Was this the thread that was discussing Au Pairs? My wife and I had twins in September and since I travel for work we hired one through EurAupair to help out. She has been a life saver and costs less than putting both in daycare.

Good call then. I'm sure she costs more than daycare because of the room, food, car insurance, etc. However, the fact that my wife doesn't have to truck them to and from daycare before and after work makes it worth that extra every day of the week. Any family with more than one child in daycare would be foolish to not consider an Au Pair.

So confirmed mine is the only infant that loves jeopardy
Just laughed out loud at this.

I literally just finished watching Jeopardy with my 5 month old bouncing on my knee. She was entranced the entire time. Must be a combination of the bright blue with Trebek's commanding treble...

Wheel of Fortune... not so much. Probably because Sajak is such a transparent douche.

When I was little, I had an infatuation with Wheel of Fortune. Mother always likes to talk about how I would ask her if she wanted to "spin the wheel, buy a vowel, or solve the puzzle."

Sajak failed the 5 month litmus test. Confirmed douche canoe.

Hey Chaos how's your daughter doing? You know, the daughter that I diagnosed over the internet with almost perfect accuracy?

No seriously, I hope she's doing well.

Yeah man, she is. Ups and downs, but so much better. She doesn't like taking her medication anymore, so that's always a thing. And the days when she doesn't have it are rough but I think we're better at dealing with her now. She does individual and group therapy weekly, the group is like learning social skills. The individual therapy I am not sure what we're really gaining out of that at this point. But we're not at the point where I want to take her out. She's doing great at school really. She goes into a normal kindergarten class most days for at least a couple of hoirs. They actually gave her a report card, which I really don't like. Like, she's reading above grade level and they say that because she wouldnt play along with their letter sound association game that she doesn't connect letters to their sounds. That's just not true, she just doesn't want to do the test. Idk, it's hard to really test her in that way. She is smart as fuck though.

Yeah, it is. I still feel like a terrible parent and person like 50% of the time, and I never know if I am doing the right thing or just ruining her life or her sisters lives. But you know, whatever.

As someone whose life was ruined by not even getting diagnosed, much less treated, I can say with 100% certainty that you are not ruining her life. You are giving her a chance at one.
