My boy is 10 days now and doing great. His mother isn't. She flipped out and attacked my Dad unprovoked while he was visiting. We put her in the loonie. My parents returned 12hours away. Today was first day back to job. I worked 4pm to midnight and then 7am to 4:30 pm. Due to the long stretch, I accepted her mother's invite to babysit the entire 24hr stretch. All seemed well on the surface. Except. All his things. From his carseat to his clothes to his bottle bag smell like cigarettes. Seriously?

@Tarrant: My friend didn't talk until she was like 5 and plenty of people had doubts. She ended up being near genius status with 5 majors: Math/Engineering/Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Biology - all which she was tutoring while she was taking it being the top 5 person in every class.

So my wife ended up having to get her tubes tied because it would be dangerous for her to get pregnant again and apparently she is immune to birth control or something. Recently, she was about 2 weeks late and we were kind of worrying. Turns out it's fine, she's not pregnant. Which, you know, thank god. But knowing her she's going to be partly let down because of that.

chaos, you could get under the knife instead, problem solved. Much less invasive procedure compared to the one for women - snippety-snip-snip.

I was going to, but the doctor really wanted my wife to do it and she was having a c-section anyway so it was not really additional danger for her. She had some pretty significant issues with her pregnancy that got worse with each successive pregnancy, could have ended up seriously harming her or the baby.

My daugter went through them no problem. The first time she didn't even cry. Bring a pacifier when he's a little older for the boosters, problem solved

Anyway, first serious wasn't bad afterwards - some elevated temperature, but that's to be expected - immune system is learning

There are differences in microorganism exposure, US vs EU. Curious, what does your program look like? Ours goes like this:

Age Vaccination
3 months diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis-polio-Hib 1 and PCV-1
5 months diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis-polio-Hib 2 and PCV-2 *
12 months diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis-polio-Hib 3 and PCV-3 *
15 months MMR 1
4 years MMR 2 *
5 years diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis-polio revaccination *
12 years MMR 2(for age4+ in 2008, revision) and for girls HPV 1, 2 and 3
*includes thorough examination

And g'luck

My experience is that parents tend to overblow the vaccinations thing. They cry for a minute then they get over it. You monitor for reactions, any reaction is usually pretty mild. Some heat or swelling on the area, but anything serious you would immediately know. idk, my kids do fine with shots and stuff so maybe I'm just spoiled. Some onf the parents at the park today were talking about it like they guided their kid through combat. He just got a shot, it really isn't the end of the world.

Of course I'm a huge hypocrite and baby my girls like crazy most of the time so what do I know.

Anatomy or serum/endocrine? Glad you got it sorted. Can't live without sex, that's for sure. I don't know how I'd react to not having the option at this point. I hope to father a son, eventually. How's she taking it? And you?

Both, she was having progressively worse pubic symphysis separation and her blood pressure was through the roof, they were constantly worried about eclampsia. It was bad enough that the doctor straight up said at the last visit "Look I think you need to get this done, if you have another baby you could die or become permanently handicapped, and clearly birth control failed once so you need to do this."

I want a son but meh, whatever. I'll mope about it later, right now I work full time, go to school full time, take care of my girls, cook, etc. I'm busy and mostly fulfilled. Maybe one of my girls will have a son and I'll just move close to them and spoil the shit out of him or something.

There's also the option of using a surrogate if it's that important to you. IVF can tell the gender pretty fast and some clinics do sperm sorting to elevate the odds of a specific gender. Costly, but doable.

Yeah, most of the time it's parents freaking out more than the kid. All 3 of mine growing up cried for like 20 seconds and then were done. My oldest doesn't even blink when they tell him he needs to get a shot, he gives zero fucks.

It's the possible aftermath that some fear. The immune system learns, elevates temperature, etc. Complications can occur if your kid is already fighting another infection / has fever, but it's super rare. It's even more rare now that it's the antibodies we introduce, not the live virus/bacteria. And later MMR are attenuated, so no worries really.

If you measure your kids temperature the day before and the morning of the vaccination, you're doing what you can as a parent and you're as covered as you're going to get.

Eh my son just had his 9 month set of vaccinations. He cried real hard for less than a minute, just like the other times, and it does break your heart even though you rationally know it's a good thing, but less each time.

My son went to the dentist on Monday for the first time. In town they have a school of Dentistry, and it's helpful for the students to have people come in and be "serviced" by the student (under close supervision of a certified dentist, of course). The trouble is, they're all training to be ANY kind of dentist or dental surgeon, or whatever. That means they run every test any of those types of doctors would ever run. His appointment lasted 2 hours. I was petrified it would be a horrible thing, and I'd essentially be holding his head still.
So, in preparation, we talked to him for several weeks ahead of time what would happen, what he should do, and how important it is to have this done. He laid perfectly still for 2 hours. Did everything he was asked, and could not have been better. I didn't think that was possible. I was mighty proud of him. (Sorry, proud parent moment.)

So, cleaning and x-rays for 10$. And an experience we had together where nothing but positive things were said the entire time. wOOt

yeah uh clearly y'all have not had a colicky baby. It will be hard to watch him in pain for sure but the part I am really not looking forward to is the subsequent 24 hrs of screaming and no sleep which happens a lot. Maybe I'll win the lotto and it won't be us but I am not thinking that that will be the case.

Also he rolled over yesterday! 3 times! It was slow and purposeful, not the whole body spasm thing. I didn't believe it the first time. The second time I started crying, and I called my husband downstairs to see if he'd do it a third time for him and he did. So proud!!

Yeah, clearly none of us who have children would never have one of the most common things that happens to babies with colic....ever as a matter of fact this is the first I've ever heard of it.

Also, the 24 hours of crying and screaming after their shots....doesn't happen "a lot". My wife works in pediatrics and if that happens they are supposed to call the clinic and let them know. I'll give you a guess at the percentage since I have her right here telling me the info.

Not trying to be a dick and I truly don't mean to give offence, but your whole first half of your post reeks of bitchy know it all'ness and that shit is annoying.

Awesome news on the rolling over, it's always exciting to start seeing them go mobile. That is, until they are running full speed through the house knocking shit over and screaming like a freight train.

Our daughter had her two month appointment on Monday... shots were not that bad. She definitely cried a cry we had never heard before and my wife was pretty upset by it... but it was her feeding time so she got to eat right away afterwards and that calmed her down.

The immunizations made her really drowsy and nothing else. She got her shots at 4:30 in the afternoon, ate, slept from 5:30 to 9:00, ate, slept from 10 to 4:30 (longest stretch of her life!!), ate, slept again until 7:30... you get the idea. I was home with her the next day and she was never fussy. We bought infant tylenol just in case and at one point she had a fever of 100.3 (or 99.9, or 100.1, damn forehead thermometer that I am still getting used to using!) so we gave her the 1.25 mL or whatever the minimum dose is and she just slept some more. The high temperature was probably due to the fact that it was 96 degrees on Tuesday in Chicago more than anything...

Our doctor said that immunizations are much different than when you and I were kids. He gave the example of one of them only using a partial cell instead of a full cell so that lessens the side effects.

Ours is 1 month, 2 months then 4 months then... I don't know.

Type of shots looks similar but at 2 months she also got a liquid Rotavirus immunization.

Same here Eyashusa, our kid just had his 4 month checkup on Monday and a fresh round of immunizations, shots in each leg. He screamed for about 30 seconds, then was fine. But boy was he tired, we got him home at about 3pm and he slept until 7pm(skipping his 4pm feeding, we couldn't wake him at all), so he had actually gone from 1pm-7pm without food, and he NEVER goes that long, even at night. We had to actually wake him at 7 and make him eat, or else he would have probably slept longer.

Was perfectly fine the next day though, right back on schedule like nothing had ever happened.
