The first time my first daughter slept through the night, I woke up at 5 and flew into her room thinking the worst. But she was fine, and I went the fuck back to sleep.

I did the same thing as I'm sure most people did...

our daughter is still sleeping through the night except now she doesn't want to go to sleep until 11. not sure what's worse.

Ha. Why do we all do that? Our first waking thought: Man, that was a great sleep. I was out for 7 hours. OH GOD MY KIDS ARE DEAD.

Turns out, sometimes kids just sleep well. It's darned hard not to worry too much, isn't it?

I will never understand parents who co-sleep. A friend of mine does it and constantly complains about getting kicked and whatnot. Or how the kid is a furnace. On those rare occasions where a kid ends up in our bed, the moment they are asleep again I pick them up and put them back in their room.

I used to think it strange or super paranoid when I heard that parents actually checked to see if their kids were still breathing, while sleeping. Then I found myself doing it - going into my son's room when his nap seems a bit long, and making sure his chest is rising and falling.

@Moontayle - I love co-sleeping with my son. He usually wakes up 1-3x a night, cries a quick second, then goes back to sleep, but I still find it the most awesome thing ever, especially when he crawls up onto my chest and rests his head there. I'm not a particularly "squishy feelings" kinda guy, but damn if it doesn't just melt my heart. 'Course he's only 1 year old, so we'll see what happens in the future heh

I hate the cosleeping thing because I feel like I'll crush my daughter in the middle of the night. Of course, she's only 7 months right now. That might change once she's more mobile.

yeah my son has been in his own crib in his own room since night 3 of being home and I still have episodes about him being in the bed and him rolling out or rolling on top of him

and he never slept in our bed those two nights. He was in a rock n play.

It makes no goddamn sense.

Sigh.

Tired of letting my wife figure out this fertility thing. Just bought some magnesium and calcium chloride lube, a microscope and some chemical analysis strips and I made a temp spreadsheet. Gonna get this done.

Sleeping has become a total nightmare in the last week. 7 month old had been sleeping through the night(10 hours 9-7) starting around month #4, but then teeth started arriving at month #5, so he had occasional cranky/teething days where nothing was right, naps were jacked, sleep time jacked, etc. But that was maybe 2 days out of 7 a week, still mostly good more often than not.

Now, about a week ago, kid is waking up every 2 hours ALL night long. Wakes up at midnight, 2 am, 4 am, 6 am and will absolutely not go back to sleep unless mom breastfeeds him for like 5 minutes. Last night we figured we needed to work to break him of this habit, so we refused to feed him when he woke up at 4am. Well, by 5:30 he was still up and fussy(occasional screaming, then calm, and back again, but never sleep) so we gave in, fed him, and back to sleep he went (until 7:30, right about 2 hours)

We don't have a clue what is going on. I know he is still teething, our pediatrician spotted 4 upper teeth all starting to work their way in, but you can't even feel them yet, and he was never this bad with the 2 bottom teeth that are all the way in, those woke him up maybe one extra time a night, if that.

We're fucking exhausted, my wife especially since she breastfeeds him each time he wakes.

Any reason you couldn't do formula every other time during the night? At least that way you could alternate which parent is up dealing with it.

P.s. My wife never produced milk due to a breast reduction when she was younger, so my kids were on formula the entire time. If breast milk and formula don't mix for some reason, I don't know about it. Just advising based on my kids.

We just got past this stage (at least I hope we're done!). We had some success drugging our son with infant grapey pain relieving goodness. It only lasts about 4 hours or so, but damn it was so worth it. Only thing we figured out that worked.

I know some people are like "omg too young for that!" but you know what else my son is too young for? Dying because daddy got in a car accident with a telephone pole due to endless weeks of lack of sleep, or losing his mom for the same reason.

We've been having some issues with going to sleep the past couple weeks... takes forever for her to fall asleep but once she does, she'll sleep through the night.

Having kids is hard on the sleep. Have you tried sleeping in separate rooms and take turns sleeping? Acetaminophen, paracetamol, is not to be used for extended periods. You risk irreversible damaging your kids liver and kidneys. The reason is interhuman variation in the level of gene expression of a specific metabolic liver enzyme, CYP2D6. I'm saying a balance is better - change your family routines if you can, don't rely on pharma alone

Can someone explain to me why my five year old would sleep until 8 on school days, but is up before 6 on Saturdays?

Someone, please. Explain it.

Hahaha, exact same situation. Getting my 5 year old up at 7 is a nightmare every day. Every day except Sat and Sun, where he is running around laughing at 5:30-6 am.

I just don't get it. My head is full of fuck. Fortunately he has taken to getting up early so he can read books. He's quite proud of being able to read. Let's hope this is a trend that sticks.

Cartoons.

Do kids still watch cartoons?
We have no TV service, so any cartoons he watches are on Netflix, and we don't let the kids watch more than a little bit of TV every day, so they generally save it for the evening. Maybe we should allow an extra half hour on Saturday mornings...
