On the surface what you're saying makes sense, and then you realize that in all souls likes people are trying to find ways to speed up gameplay with one shots and OP combinations.

That's just... human nature. "How can I break this shit to benefit me".

When people find new ways of overpowering the game they literally giggle and clap. There are like thousands of clips of this behavior in every game genre
Sure, but even something like Comet Azur, Giant Crusher, Royal Greatsword, etc. strats still require a relatively "slower" pace compared to most games. You still have to be somewhat methodical about when you charge up Azur or when you land a jump attack, for instance.

And to pretend like PoE2 won't have its own versions of busted shit is ignoring the autism levels available on the internet. I hear what you're saying, but I'll just agree to disagree that slow = tedium. In some cases, sure. Bad developers? Definitely. But a game can have one without the other, IMO.

Yea, we'll see. I think it looks fine. I get where Khane is coming from though and he's right in that the "feel" of progression ie getting stronger is the true allure of POEs system. If the game ends up being more engaging then hopefully it won't be tiring grinding for hours and hours on end like you have to do in POE. On the other hand, maybe the combat will feel so good that it won't feel bad. It looked fine to me. In fact the combat objectively looks in every way shape and form better unless you truly just want to mindlessly one click smash a map 100 times in a session, which some people really like. I always feel its an excuse to catch up on lectures/work which when you think about it is kind of silly.

I'm hyped as fuck. However, it'll all come down to how easy it is to get stronger and what that upper limit looks like. I think POE right now is in a great spot. You can SSF pretty easy up to 4 watch stones, then you gotta grind like fuck and get pretty lucky or just be playing a super specific build to do pinnacles. Builds have various ceilings to break through for various stages of the game and it all works really well right now. Its a pretty complex system that could very well completely break in the beta, but that's what these things are for. GGG seems to know enough about their game to know how to progress power and keep the carrot on the stick going.

people are stupid. You shouldn't reward them for speeding through it.
If the killing is actually fun- yes. That would be a good game. If it's terrible until you speed through a billion mobs to get your unicorn drop and then it's fun... that's a fucking terrible game.

This is a very reasonable concern. The dev video did specify that you will be burning down screens with the speed you know. But if all or even most boss fights are slow and methodical your map runs take +5 minutes each time compared to POE1 it's going to be an issue.

That's going to add up something fierce in a grind oriented game.

Make it like undercity in d4. You have to haul ass to get to the boss level, but once you do timer stops and you can just focus on boss fight.

They said bosses are only in like 1 in 4 maps and with the markers you can probably avoid them if you want, or if you like bossing, there's a tree that gives better rewards for killing bosses. So you'll either be able to focus on mapping or bossing.

If bosses are a slog where you have to repeat mechanics 568 times, it's no longer a question of "hard", now it's a question of tedium and people will just skip that bullshit.

I finally watched the cinematic part.

Exactly all I need from POE story. Some dudes release a Cthulhu and we have to kill its abominations. I really don't need anymore than that.

Jonathan said they want to get full release during 2025. But they don't know for sure how everything will go.

So might be summer release or it might be christmas release.

The most exciting thing to me is that map prefixes are all upside and suffixes are all downside. It means that a 6-mod map is actually only half negatives. My assumption is that 8-mod corrupted maps will be 4 postive and 4 negative. Still light years better than the current all mods on maps are negative mindset.

That's why they quartered map boss appearances and made them a choice. Zoomzooms can just do those maps without a boss.

I haven't actually watched it, but is it still the old quantity/quality boost even on positive map mods? Because those downsides on PoE1 maps did come with an upside in that regard, they were not purely negative.
