Yes and it is a huge step backwards from PoE1 in many, many regards. Which is baffling because they have been steadily innovating and improving on the experience in that game for so long and yet they decided to be regressive with so many of the things they've ported into PoE2. They also have not added anything "new" to the genre, they copied and hybridized a bunch of things that quite frankly just don't belong in ARPGs (like dodge roll and collision "pushing")

The fact that its called PoE2 is the biggest hurdle for them, expectations are high because of the bar they've set for themselves. I believe the game will be much less frustrating and much better to play by full release. But I'm glad that so many people are complaining about the obvious regressive features because GGG is usually very good about not just being arrogant pricks and digging in on most issues (sometimes they do but its rare).

This new Atlas system is straight up just a worse version of the PoE1 Atlas system in every single way. From how you unlock points to how random it all is to how much less control you as a player have over what content you want to farm to how absolutely awful the map layouts are to the 1 try nonsense. The Atlas in PoE1 is the single most innovative thing ever added to ARPGs ever. And over the years they have dialed it in to a point where you can quite literally choose your own adventure and even save multiple setup loadouts. This RNG on RNG on RNG version of the Atlas they instituted in PoE2 is throwing away all the lessons and work they put in to making the Atlas so good in PoE1. It's baffling.

The game is still very good, because GGG is good at creating compelling systems, but it still begs the question "Why did they implement this" in so many areas.

I completely agree and the only way the decisions make sense is:

1.) They are trying some new things (like the atlas) and it may not be great to start, but it will get better because this is the first pass
and
2.) They never expected POE1 to turn out like it did and now they have to trivialize their old content every few leagues because they don't have any room to maneuver without a complete reset which has made them hold back a ton of power/skills/content/etc so that they can drip feed it to us over the next few years

The second bullet point can be taken as something malevolent if you wanted to paint GG with that brush, but I really think it is a conscious effort to put themselves in a position to grow the game over a decade that may be causing them to be too shortsighted up front.

For all the new players, this is probably the best nerf radar around.

Well I'm level 16 now lol

What abilities open me up like the Grand Canyon?

I think you can get all of these at 14, ice Strike, tempest bell, herald of ice, and staggering palm. These make the monk awesome, freeze and explode everything with great movement.

So am I correct in my understanding that now, at level 72 and on level 3 maps, my resists aren't going down ever again? That they basically got rid of all the extra level/map based resist negatives?

You can spec Energy Sheild if you want more "Life", obviously not exactly the same.

This change stops most builds being 75% life nodes or death.

It also stops needing to google builds since you needed to travel to random places on the tree to stack a stat, this way you are encouraged to stay closer to your starting point so you can figure more out yourself.

Yeaaaaaaa no. The best builds require extensive traveling and its not fun. Its been a complaint since Day 1 that the tree feels limp and not as fun as PoE1, the removed a big chunk of its power and shifted it to gear.

Here is the Vine Arrow build that just got mega nerfed since it was probably the best build in the game bar none

The fact you have to go all over the place like that and its mostly boring +5 str/int/dex nodes is dumb.

Here is Lilly's Deadeye. Its all fucking travel nodes again.

An finally here is mine, I might as well play The Proclaimers making this fucking thing, and if it wasnt one of the best builds I would drop it (I still may just go Hex Blast)

Am I supposed to find these spells randomly? I haven't seen any of them.

EDIT: Quoted the wrong person but

Tmac Tmac

Go into options -> Game -> Unclick "Gemcutting Restrictions"

Then click on an uncut skill gem and on the left side are all the skill types, at the bottom is "All Gems". Click that.

I don't think it's THAT bad. It's kind of looks like voices pathing.

I think I'd like for them to move away from dense clusters and each cluster be no more then 3 nodes at most. That should allow you to path to more clusters which is really the core choice mechanic in the passive tree, and you could fit more clusters in various areas.

Also the density of travel around the middle is kind of retarded.

Voices' pathing is boring. Adorned made it even worse.

So I guess the trade system is useless for me with everything costing 1 divine.

The POE 2 tree isn't 'bad' but it's nowhere near as good as the POE1 tree. The POE1 passive tree is buy far one of the best aspects of the game IMO. Figuring out the choices, optimizing, min-maxing, noodling around with it, all of that is fantastic.

I don't like that they seem to want to simplify it so normies find it less intimidating, presumably. Fuck normies.

As one easy example: there's 1 cluster right now for each weapon type. 1 for quarterstaves, 1 for swords, etc. In POE1 there are like 3 or 4 per type, and the magic was having to pick which ones you wanted based on travel distance and the various differences in the bonuses they provided depending on what you're trying to do. It wasn't just +dmg or 1 simple choice.

Usual caveats apply, this is early access, the rest of the weapons aren't in, etc.

Holding out for any type of QoL change on that platform is gonna be rough. In fact I saved GGGs response below (well this was for melee but it can be applied to anything)

Man, that 3rd trial is fucking nerve wracking. Didn't realize at first that you need to click the door to finish up those lvl 50 ones (doing the terracotta bosses), so I was a few relics short on what I could've had.

Still beat it first try (had 4 total relics with max honor and resist), but I had like 2400 honor and went into last boss with about 600. Did a no hit on him though which helped. Worst part was I had some random bullshit in the room right before that which hit me for like 700 honor in one shot, out of nowhere.

Direct whisper on the trade site should work regardless of platform.

If you actually need to chat on console, plugging in a keyboard in the only real option.
