I can’t help but feel like they just going to keep making it more and more like PoE 1 instead of going with methodical high risk/reward gameplay. The super fast enemies and offscreen hitting bullshit does not allow for changes in the direction of something different.
Light radius instead of light rolling? It is right there…give me more I frames instead of that useless fucking stat.
You dedicated a full action to dodge rolling and blocking, make use of it. Blocking feels like a horrible action instead of dodging or attacking, or even just moving away. Even with thorns, fuck ton of points invested in blocking it feels bad to use.
They will, because they didn't make PoE 2 any different. It's the exact same game as PoE 1, and will have the same fate as a result -- in 10 years it's going to be all about the zoom zoom and screen blasting maps while the core of the game never changes while 200k of us play league after league because we're fucking idiots.
The only real difference I've seen in PoE 2 after the 170 hours of it I've played is dodge rolling, identify all (perhaps the best change in poe2) and genuinely losing loot after every death, even in the campaign. Every single thing else existed in PoE 1 in one way or another.
* The Well? That was automatic in PoE 1.
* The Atlas? That's just delve, with maps. I suppose you can say it's a different implementation enough to be truly different, but is it though? Tablets are just old school sextants, the nodes are just a pre-set map only giving you advance notice of the league content on it. Nothing really different here.
* Delirium, Ritual, Breach, Expedition, Beyond? All the exact same as PoE 1 with minor tweaks. Collect 300 of X shard to get one Y stone. Rituals are more annoying, but same.
* Skill Gems? Exact same system except it's not bound to your gear anymore. This is a good implementation, but functionally its no differnet as to how skill gems work in PoE 1 outside of leveling which is inexplicably worse in PoE 2.
* Passive Tree? Same thing, just different layouts.
* Atlas Tree? Different, but same with more grift. Nodes can only be invested now if you grind that specific stuff and zero agency to choose your maps. "It's always Vaal Factory or Augury" I hear constantly in guild chat.
* Leveling? Still XP loss on death in maps, still 100 levels, still same amount of XP per level, still same XP formulas.
* Ascension? Still 2 available per class, still 4 ascendancies, still have to do 4 trials, PoE2 just yet again borrowed PoE1 mechanics (Sanctum and Ultimatum), but implemented atrociously bad. I wonder how much they fuck up the 3rd "trial" that's coming at release. Watch it be a Lake of Kalandra stone building shitshow or some retarded Heist implementation.
* Nameless Seer? He's still there, and functions in the same way.
* Loot? Most important of all, yet all samey with tons of functionality taken away. All the mods are still there, all the shitty mods too. Yay, more light radius and reduced attributes on gear. If you're going to take away 90% of my ability to make my own items, at least give me better chances of making decent shit. Thanks for reversing the tier values, though. Now, I can't tell how good the tier can get on the gear, because some mods go up to T12 and shit, others just hit T3.
* Crafting? Same thing, except completely gutted. Runes created to make up for lack of crafting bench to allow you to add some basic shit to your items, but Runes are implemented in the worst possible way, very obviously on purpose.
* Inventory? Exact same size, still with no sort buttons.
* Trading? Still only good for the currency exchange. Not even a similar-to-LE option for trading items. Many items that should be on the currency exchange, like waystones, aren't. Same shitty implementation for many items (but the same good implementation for straight up fragments and currencies).
* Monsters? Almost all the same as their PoE 1 variants. Many of the mods on rares are also all the same. Graphically different, functionally the same.
* Ground clutter? Still there. Still no option to turn off your own fucking particles.
The list goes on. It's all the same shit packaged differently. They could have made PoE 2 a game much more for the masses in a long-term manner. I do feel PoE 2 has done ridiculously well, but I've been reminded that we're exceptional gamers in terms of getting through the campaign in 1-2 days versus the dad gamers that are legitimately going to take 2 weeks just to get through the first 3. When the game is fully released, I feel a lot of people will come back, but after that, we're not going to see 550-600k people on steam anymore for it.
The game is just too much grift for the mass-market long-term. I've spoken to several people that LOVE PoE 2 but cannot wrap their head around why on earth they don't let you lower your particles and that the particles "lag [their] pc". They can't understand why there isn't a sort button, and cannot understand why trading is made so hard. They don't understand why they need to click on six things to accomplish six different tasks (vendors/well) and why so much bad loot drops. Those are the kind of issues that's going to keep them away from the game long-term. These players don't mind these issues now, but they will when its the same, constantly and when PoE2 inevitably becomes PoE1 these gamers aren't going to be able to keep up anymore.
