I think CCP is right in that there's a fair amount of overlap in the POE and Eve crowds, so marketing via big POE names makes some sense.
The issue is a person who has never played Eve before picking it up for 2-3 chunks a couple times is literally never going to learn how anything works, much less accomplish anything that looks even mildly interesting.
The game is such a fucking horrorshow of menu-spam UI, obtuse systems, entirely unclear mechanics and basically 0 new player onboarding that I'm not even sure why they are spending money trying to market it because even if they have the right audience no one is going to play it in it's current form.

Yea like I said, they aren't exactly wrong in going after PoE players as they already have the tolerance for that kind of obtuse bullshit.
The problem is in Eve the long road to understanding the obtuse bullshit *also* comes with losing all your ships/wealth constantly to scams, ganks, NPCs that warp scram you, etc.

Thanks but I'm going to try and figure it out I guess. My s layer has been my step child that I never really got it going well all league and instead played my other characters. I did get my chaos to positive at least. I seem to have lots of tank and really low on dps. I need to sit down and go through my tree and see if I missed or misclicked someting redoing the entire thing at once.
No point in throwing money at it at this point. Pretty sure I would just end up deeper down the hole after having spent more currency.

I play both. At least with PoE you can start and follow the campaign and struggle with your own build till you decide to follow a build. I did in my first league. I got to the point of being hard to kill, but taking forever for me to kill anything.
Eve you really have to invest some time early on. I don't see how a stream that basic is going to help. The few minutes I watched Mathil he just showed the ship tree and didn't know what ship he was in and was talking about spending a ton of isk people had gifted lol.

My highest character is a LS pathfinder. It's so fast I rarely carry a quicksilver flask. I have gain flask charge on crit and 97% chance to crit so I can keep 4 utility flask going at almost all times if not all time. Kind of like a cheap mageblood, of course I had to spend points to get that but it is handy and super easy to just worry about using a life flask if needed, not uber but works for me.

Get two max tamings / tattoos that give chance to poison / bleed, and eventually a nimis.
Still using Ralakesh boots and Arns Anguish belt as well and the damage is decent, the random projectiles does take some getting used to, but at least if you get the blue altar mod its a freebie.

Seems they would have implemented it in PoE 1 if they had a solution to melee vs ranged.
If you've played Brotato, there are some monsters that will spew projectiles based on how many non-melee attacks they've been hit with. In the recent DLC, the developer added a monster that spits projectiles in all directions if it is killed by a ranged attack. Essentially, corpse explode for ranged only.
Guess we'll see, or maybe after the 21st they will save a few things to tease leading up to the EA.

They were headed in the right direction with fortify changes and then they were like fuck it and gave up.
