Just went back and looked - I'm colorblind, and I still don't see a difference.

Not too worried about it, the upcoming tooltip is fine by me.

I can't tell if I'm going mad or if I'm just really unlucky. I've farmed dried lake on merciless at least 20 times and I've gotten zero map drops. The only map drop I've gotten was a rare one from the rare map which is a reward from a4 quest line. I recall last time I played I was getting crummy white maps from around a2m onward.

Well to be fair, you're kinda supposed to farm dried lake for a while, like until 75 or so, which should give you some maps to begin. Only really need a few to start, T1 maps are very easy to sustain since any map drops is at least T1, it's when you get to high tiers and you still get T1 drops that it starts becoming a bitch. Like once you have 5 T1 maps you're good to go for mapping, in general. Can also log onto that shitty reddit sharing thing to get Zana map, then buy some T1 maps from Zana they're pretty cheap iirc. Probably want to be 70+ at that point though, not sure what lvl you are.

Are you running a lootfilter ? I imagine some of the endgame ones will want to filter out T1 maps.

On that note, be sure you know exactly what your loot filter is doing. Some of them are not well configured for new leagues. One I tried early on started to hide 3 links after level 30, which I didn't realize until later, and IMO is much too soon, especially in fresh leagues.

So for someone who has never played this before, is it worth starting now while I wait for the new D3 season?

Yeah, new season just started, so you have plenty of people starting again. It's more like D2 than D3, planning your character is quite important and you will die a lot to stuff you aren't going to expect.

I had the same suspicion so I run with it both on and off. Still haven't seen anything. I need to find a shitty white T1 map to simply test my loot filter works. I'm running NeverSink and it claims to not filter out any maps of any kind.

Also I got an exhalt orb before getting a T1 map. I'm either incredibly lucky or incredibly unlucky.

You like mmo's so im pretty sure youll enjoy PoE, it has a steep learning curve but ask questions and we can help. Think of PoE as D2's true successor but that made sex to a deeply technical MMO and they had a child. The part I love other than the complex builds is that there is actual raids in the game that are no joke and are gated behind keying.

@Tenks what Pyros said is right, you have an XP meter on the bottom which tells you how much XP per hour youre getting. Nothing really beats Dried lake because of the setup and density until mid to late 70's. Middle of the pack builds will do 30ish million an hour, high end builds go closer to 80-100million xp an hour. I can also throw some maps into our guild bank for you man, any of us mapping already have a page full of them.

I always end up trying this out for a couple hours and quitting because of the sheer magnitude of options and being lost.

Might give it another go, been watching Ziggy stream (ON MUTE) and enjoying it.

One of us who plays it regularly helping you out with some gear and tips on leveling will make it much much more enjoyable. Another good 2 streamers to watch are Mathil (high end builds, raid) and LiftingNerdBro (Easy effective HC builds). The forums is a good place to start under each class look for the guides with a lot of responses like 10+ pages. Those are usually the strong builds for the current meta.

Cool, I'll check it out.

It can be just like old times, just two bros running hand in hand through highmaul

The map gods heard my whining and I got 3 drops this morning.

Holy fuck this skill grid thing, what am I even looking at.
Just find a build online and blindly follow it. The tree is overwhelming but realistically you only want to stay in certain sections depending on your build.

Oh and for the love of god, avoid any melee build for the first playthrough. I'm not sure whether I'm playing the game wrong, but I always end up having to trade some stuff so I don't die twice to every boss.

Ground Slam marauder is fine as a newbie melee build, but pretty much everything else isn't. I mean can get it done if you follow a guide, but leveling as melee is way different than playing melee at higher levels(which is a lot easier). Also it requires better understanding of tree pathing and itemization to make the most of it, especially in end of cruel/merciless.

Best builds to start would probably be Caustic Arrow, Tornado Shot or whatever's good for spells nowadays. Bladefall I hear is very good but the targetting mechanics are wonky(they might be fixing that in the patch tomorrow). The new chaos spells stuff looks pretty solid. Firestorm's probably good, it's great for leveling at least.

Can anyone explain to me why Taste of Hate and those other unique flasks are so valuable? I don't understand the mitigation effects and all that.
