Well they want a progression, but yeah it feels really like shit with the multiple difficulties. It's kinda similar in Diablo really, but wish they'd just remove the concept. Make leveling faster, make the story approx 1-60, then start maps at 60 like the old days. Just add more tiles and more maps to make new tiers, so it still goes up to 80+ like now. Maybe make major tier tresholds for maps while you're at it. 60-70 behaves normally, 70-80 can only drop 70+maps, and 80+ can only drop 75+maps, or something. Increase xp for 90+ to compensate.

I think the difficulty spikes are fairly standard though and probably should remain(however some of these mobs do need to get checked, like the fucking unique mob in kaom's realm which is ridiculously retarded and Daresso's fight especially the stupid whirling blades that spawn on top of you and do damage instantly for crazy values).

But yeah currently A4 is easily more than twice as hard as A1. A1 is REALLY easy for most of it besides maybe Brutus, the mobs are just fucking shit all over the place, they're slow, don't hit hard or don't have annoying properties. Even flicker ghosts or vuln crabs aren't nearly as dangerous as most of the shit in A4. Only difference in difficulty is if you're not ele capped in the new diff so you might have trouble with like Merveil or whatever, but even Merveil with not capped ice resist isn't that dangerous.

Having a lot of fun with a Essence Drain/Contagion build, destroys groups and lets you run around manually dodging things on bosses most of the time since the main damage is the DoT.

You can't do maps until you hit A3 merciless last level of solaris temple.

I'd be very happy if they gave us something like wellfare high lvl maps, maybe as a daily quest or something, so you aren't running stuff 10 levels bellow you since better stuff isn't dropping or you can't roll it so it is worth it to do. Give people 3 t10+ maps to do daily and I'm pretty sure their player retention would jump. Same goes for high lvl masters, it's like they are afraid people would be done with stuff without crazy amounts of grinding. Lvl 8 Zana in 3 month league is stupid and they know it.

Oh and overhaul the fucking UI. Coming up with your own chat system and abbreviations is cute, but ultimately bloody stupid, since not everybody runs on english keyboard. Every sane game uses /r for replies, but this game gets to be special. Friendslist that fits like 10 people with tons of wasted space. Trading that is straight up out of D2, as in 15 years out of date and economy that works only because of several third party sites and apps. I know ingame AH of sorts is in the works, but I wait with baited breath whether they will make the exact same mistakes D3 and Blizzard made with theirs. The game is inching there, if you can farm up like 3-4 ex very swiftly at the start of a league, you can flip that for any solid build without budget variations, so eventually you are grinding for gold/currency to trade with others, not for the items themselves, which is a lot less fun.

generally yes.

If you are new, Merviel can be scary still. cold resist only real req for a new player.
act 2 boss is phsy/lit. not much in act is really super dangerous.
act 3 has some spikes. Crematorium can be dangerous. fire and lit resists.
Merciless docks has a boss that does fire damage, which is super scary for an unprepared melee. dont touch without 75% fire resist.
Lunaris temple boss isn't too bad usually. fire, lit, and cold resist check, at moderate levels.
Temple of god has a miniboss that is scary. phys and light traps. temple of god boss, also phys and light. having maxxed is a very good idea. Bleed removing potion a must.
you might need to farm before temple of god a bit.
A4 spikes. Phys damage bone caster miniboss. 100% hit rate, phsy damage. hell for evasion chars.
Koams as noted. fire resist mostly. but still alot of pita. Koam himself. massive fire damage, needs lots of aoe. npcs dont target raging spirits, which can be a pain for some builds. Daresso himself has phys damage spells. I dont find daresso that bad.
A bit of farm before koam, not a bad idea. dried lake. then, again before entering.
Belly of the beast boss needs +run speed, bleed removal, and again phys DR. act4 boss mostly the same.

most people dont bother with act 4 bosses on merc. do dried lake, mines, and forget koam, etc.

Okay I almost have Act 4 done on normal so then it flips to cruel and I do it over?
Yeah like the old Diablo games. A few bosses get a few new tricks but mostly it's the same, just with a -20resist penalty and high damage/health values to compensate for your level. Then it does it again for Merciless with -60resists, but since it's the last you can stop without finishing in merciless.

Eventually I think they are going for 10 acts so there's no need for alternate difficulty levels (though they'd be smart to have one hard difficulty level so you can farm anywhere).

I will say this installing a loot filter was game changing.

I had no idea what I was leaving on the ground by not picking up whites that were three colors. Things like that.

Yeah but that's like super far away. Seems the next expansion there won't be more actual act content, just the labyrinth which won't give shit for xp since you can only do it once and it seems it has a fuckton of traps and stuff and you have to backtrack and what not. That's why I think reworking the current content so it fits in less replays would be a good option. They can readjust shit a bit once they start releasing act5.

Yeah I wish they'd lower the time it takes to get max level. I don't know their internal statistics but I assume most players for PoE are not new players. They're people who have done this shit tons of times. Doing the story 3x is just tedious and boring. I'm not the world's fastest leveler and I don't know all the tricks and tips but it takes me a good 8-12 hours to get to Dried Lakes merciless.

And that's still pretty fast.

I don't think the 1-100 is too long though, I think it's about right, maybe even too short in some cases(mostly groups), it's just the pre map experience is really annoying but maps start so late now that you're already in the slow leveling part of the whole thing by the time you start maps.

Another thing they could do is just add D3's rifts. No fancy mechanics or anything, just go to the map device in normal(obviously it'd need to be there) and drop a TP scroll in there or whatever, and you get a random generic no affix map, capped at 60 or whatever. Basically, you get maps gameplay(randomized monsters), with randomized map tiles, with no loot or xp bonus specifically, to replace normal leveling. You would still have to do the skill points quests later on, but that's pretty quick. Have Zana spawn in these too so you can start leveling Zana faster and get a map thingie in your hideout earlier so you don't have to constantly go to act3 while leveling.

Honestly, I think this solution would take very minimal effort to implement, and would fix a lot of the boredom of leveling.

The only nags I've heard is how would you handle bandit quest (to me easy -- at 20/40/60 you choose an option) and how do you handle quest rewards and most importantly skill points. Again I find this pretty easy just spread them out as level up rewards.

see thats just weird to me. I find nonstop mapping tedious, and need to play alts, other games, etc to break the monotony.

What are you using? Was watching a stream of someone using one that looked awesome but had no idea what it was called.
