I'm waiting for 12k12fps. I want to see each glorious frame render like a web page image on the heathen dial up connections of old.
The fuck? Those were loading line by line so you really just got 1 frame after ten minutes of that. 12fps would have been fucking glorious in the early 90s.

Any good trade-in deals going on for turning in a PS5 for a Pro? I figure if not, there'll definitely be something around Black Friday or Christmas.

The video a few posts back makes this look pretty nice. The Hogwarts Legacy shots were especially mind-blowing.

Then again, since there's no disc drive and I'd have to buy an external one, I kinda just want to tell Sony to fuck off on this one.

gamestop will give you $300 for one with a disc drive with a $25 bonus for being a pro member, thats kinda the best at the moment. they were giving $400 a month ago but its unlikely to return to that value. I semi wish I had jumped at that deal but I wouldn't want to be without the console for a month either.

Playstation direct uses a site called back market to trade in old consoles and they apparently give like $350 if you trade in a ps5 with 2 controllers PLUS a $50 bonus on the PSDirect site so that may be the best option if you are fine shipping your ps5 away, not sure if you can order your PS5 Pro first and have it delivered before you ship off your old system

For anyone who got a PS5 Pro you can test if your system has coil whine, skip ahead to 726 seconds in this video (already skipped in the embed) to hear what it sounds like. I ran spiderman 2 on my pro and didn't hear anything but my hearing isn't amazing anyways

I looked and ps direct only offers $283 + 50 for one controller which seems about on par with GameStop's deal. No fuckin way I'd send them two controllers

Hmm son has an old PS5 controller with bad stick drift… not sure I really want to spend the remaining amount needed to get the Pro and the drive though.

Got my Pro today, it really is smaller than base PS5. Didn't notice any wind up noise as mentioned above. It does seem to have the same issue with my network cable being slightly too small to maintain a solid connection. Guess I'll try a different cable.

Installed Stellar Blade to see how the upgrades worked. I tried the Max Pro setting first, and sadly the ghosting I saw while in Quality mode on the PS5 is still there, but the fps was waaaaaaaay better (TV was saying 50-60 while running around in the Great Desert). Switched to the Pro mode and the ghosting went away while still looking super good, far better than Balanced mode on PS5, the lowest fps I saw was 76, all other times it was 80+, very impressive.

Think I try out First Descendent and Hogwarts next.

Your experience with Stellar Blade lines up with the Digital Foundry review, around the 44 min mark they talk about Stellar Blade, and Pro mode being the best option since it uses PSSR and 80FPS and cleans up the whole image. Timestamped below

I'm curious on First Descendent performance on the Pro, specifically those 400% runs and the sections with kill 300 enemies. The chaos is fun but the chugging sure isn't on a regular PS5.

i've heard its a bit ubisoft-y in that you clear zones and side quest checklists sorta mindlessly while following an ok story, but sometimes i just want that clear a map vibe (without someone telling me their pronouns) in an interesting setting, and I'd rather play that than Afro Samurai AC Shadows.

it has a ps5 pro patch so really just to see what it would look like, its a Koei game like Nioh so probably will come to PC in ~6 months or so, usually 12-18 months PS5 exclusive.

Black Myth Wukong has a physical release in mid Dec so the other big game I plan on picking up

Didn't get around to doing a 400% dungeon, but using Fidelity mode + Frame Gen was pretty nice, crisp and it felt 60fps+ even in Swamp (though the rain in the Swamp looked odd with Frame Gen on).

Also tried out SM2 for a bit, even though there isn't a Pro patch for that game. Quality mode was still 30fps if that, while the Performance mode seemed less blurry (though its been awhile since I played SM2 on PS5).
