So funny seeing people going out of their way to get 100% IV's determined entirely by luck as they work under the assumption that shit is even remotely beneficial given current mechanics.

Having said that:
Patch is late. Where the fuck is it. I need my worthwhile combat system to shit on everyone with some actual collusion of brain cells taking place as I do so.

There we go.

Uh, there is absolutely no question that higher IVs are beneficial.

There's also no question that higher IVs are beneficial in an extremely trivial way.

The difference between a 0 IV Dragonite and a 100 IV Dragonite at my level is almost 400CP. 2585 vs 2950.

Yes it takes luck to get one, but how many Dratinis do you think I've caught? Well over 100.

It takes a fair chunk of time to farm up 125 candy to evolve a stage 3 pokemon. Why wouldn't you want to use that candy in the way that gives the best reward?

We're all INTJ video game sperglords here, we min/max everything.

Oh well I was just talking about the difference between like 80% and 100%. Aint nobody evolving a 0% dratini.

The right move set is definitely more important than IVs. A 0% vaporeon with hydro pump is probably going to outperform a 100% vaporeon with water pulse.

Updated dust count. I levelled to 28, powered my new dragonite from 15.5 to 29.5, updated all my top pokemon, and Im down to 230k dust.

I just powered up a second exeggutor to 30 so I'm back down to 20k dust. I did browse through my pokemon and i actually didn't waste that much dust, it's mostly tied up in shelved/unfinished projects.

Pound/Play Wigglytuff lvl 24 - Not a high priority to finish leveling to A-team status
Leaf/Beam Vileplume lvl 28.5 - Bumped to B-team once I got a Zen/Beam Exeggutor
Breath/Blizz Cloyster lvl 28.5 - I regret this but if you actually take the time to dodge (which I've been starting to figure out) he can indeed 1 for 1 a high level Dragonite. Very inefficient use of dust though.
Zen/Psychic Hypno lvl 25.5 - This is one of the few spots where I think I flat out wasted dust. Wanted a decent all purpose attacker and wasn't patient enough to wait for something better.
Breath/Pump Gyarados lvl 28.5 - This was wasted dust, Gyarados fucking blows. Should have evolved one for the pokedex and never looked at him again.
Shard/Blizz Lapras lvl 24 - Not enough candy to finish promoting to A-team
Thunder Jolteon lvl 25 - Wasted dust, Jolteon sucks
Flamethrower Flareon lvl 26.5 - Wasted dust, Flareon sucks AND flamethrower is his worst move. No clue wtf I was thinking

Once I've gotten Wigglytuff, Vileplume, and Lapras to 30, I'm gonna focus on leveling a broad group of pokemon to lvl 30 instead of pouring dust down the drain of diminishing returns on my A-team. Have a 95% whip/beam Venusaur that's definitely getting powered up, chop/chop Machamp if I ever get one, and maybe this 91% zen/blast Clefable, although I have no idea if it will be able to handle a Dragonite like Wigglytuff can.

I'd take the time to max everything if it provided me with some amount of tangible benefit and not kudo points from my internet brethren.

I'll provide an example: I watched a group of grown ass men huddledd amongst one another in a parking not far from where I work obviously leveling some Valor gym up as I drove past. About thirty minutes later, I see the same guys in the parking lot as I myself am on a smoke break. I literally just walked up, pointed my phone at them, and begin to dragonite faceroll their level 7 gym full of 2000+ CP Snorlaxes / Dragonite and like 1 or 2 Lapras.

I didn't look at my phone, I just kept it pointed at them. I just tapped it. No dodging. They watched me take three out before they died and I just popped revives and potions, rinse and repeat. This went on for a few minutes before I had de-leveled it already.

"Man, that's fucking stupid."

Yes, yes it is.

There is nothing those IV's (yes, obviously outside absolute single digit % shit-tier, but let me know when you find a dratini with one) will do when defending or taking a gym outside a marginal time adjustment. All you need are consumables, anything slightly worth a damn within striking distance of whatever you're attacking and time. Provided I'm in Houston, it's predominately time. I could have literally handed my phone off to a small child and told them to repeatedly tap it during each fight while I smoked.

I'll record myself doing it sometime later.

I should be able to piss in people's cheerios, just not this way. There's nothing distinguishing you and your perfectly groomed 100% IV pokedex line-up from Johnny the Ritalin-addled 10 year old who just so happens to have all night to zerg down a well-diversified gym you set up.

So that's basically what I do with my pokemon at this point and I am strangely having a grand old time, especially when other folks tag along as well.

Were there important words somewhere underneath all that condescension? Giving you the benefit of the doubt that you actually caught them all legitimately, 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of players don't have 7 2500+ Dragonites. And as we've said every single time some self-important turd comes in here spouting about how IVs don't matter, IVs and move sets are the only thing in game you can cultivate to get a more powerful pokemon. It doesn't matter how trivial an increase it is because there is nothing else to do.

As for Johnny the 10 year old, yeah no fucking shit if someone has the time and supplies to just sit there for hours, they can eventually grind your gym down no matter how it's set up. I grind a couple level 10 gyms down to level 3 every time I go into my old town and you're wildly underestimating how much time it takes, especially when there are high level Lapras and Snorlax involved, because they have no effective counter.

I probably wont even bother with gyms until they rehaul them, but i still care about IV. Why? I could say that at somr point in the future that extra 5% cp will matter, but the truth is that it just gives another dimension of fun while catching and "training".

Finally got the extra accounts set up with live map, hot damn I can actually scan the entire town again. Just got back from hauling in a Vileplume that spawned across town! I wasn't expecting it to be a keeper, and it wasn't, but I should haul in a helluva lot more very and ultra rares in now.

Exactly; nothing else to do.

I don't believe I'm underestimating the time whatsoever. 45+ minutes easily when it comes to those types you mentioned. The principle of it being a foregone conclusion no matter how ineffectively you throw FOTM 'mons at it is just terribly mind-boggling to me. Time =/= Difficulty. Not everyone should have access to everything on account of possessing the basic virtue of patience. Even when it comes to games played in their free time.

Don't get me wrong, I realize I'm an elitist, but in this day and age I honestly don't view that as asking for much. With the continuous lowering of the proverbial bar that's been going on for years now to give everyone a chance, this one oddly strikes me as particularly severe from a design standpoint in spite of the fact it's a mobile game.

Just give me actual trainer battles and we'd be gravy.

Edit: The desktop map from pokemongodev? That has been around since the first week of release and was one of the first to receive dev support following the most recent patch where everything was temporarily halted.

Got a notification ping from live map, tab out of mass recall and about shit myself when I see a Dragonite. Just spawned too so I don't even have to hurry, hoping as I walk this is 125 dratini candy and not just 4 dratini candy.

Yeah, 4 dratini candy.

haha went out to catch an exeggcute in my back yard and he was surrounded by 2 weedles, 2 pidgeys, and a venonat. That motherfucker had balls of steel.
