My girl is now a boy, so score. (obv. I'd take either, but my best friend growing up to which we are still close is having a boy at about 20 weeks ahead)

My partner has just recently confirmed pregnancy on an altruistic (the only kind allowed by Canadian Law) surrogacy for a couple that is incapable of having their own children. The intended mother had cancer, and as a result had a full hysterectomy. Because she hasn't been cancer free for long enough, the couple is ineligible for adoption. Pretty sad story on their end convinced the woman to let them put a baby in her. The months of drugs was pretty brutal, but we're through that and onto horrible morning (all day) sickness for what will likely be the entire first trimester. Other than piles of ginger and bland food, anyone have any home-spun remedies?

Everything is fine over here. I think we have everything ready for the baby. Just waiting... 4 more weeks or less I hope.

That last month is hell, you are so ready for it to be out by then.
Yeah the thing thats like real hard for me to wrap my brain around is that its fucking hard to move everything hurts - eff stairs so much etc.....

But I'm no bullshit 10-12lbs lighter now than back in November when we found out I was pregnant. I know center of gravity shifts/different muscles etc but its like WTF this is annoying. My friends are like "you need to buy new pants" because the stuff (pants) I have is SO big and is constantly falling down but I'm like fuck buying new maternity pants for one month.....

Started having contractions for a while yesterday. Nothing timeable really but I was like well hey that's cool things are progressing. I was only 20% effaced with the kid not even at a station and practically zero dilation last friday - hopefully this friday will see more progression. I need to ask them too why my belly looks like a triangle a lot of the time/is lopsided.

We are at 37 weeks. Not dilated at all as of yesterday. My wife definitely ready for this to be over with.

That last month really is bad. My wife had all sorts of issues getting around, stairs being the worst (to the point we had to sleep downstairs). Of course things are magnified if there are other factors involved (age, high blood pressure, etc).

Prolly cause the baby hasnt turned yet, nothing to worry till they could turn head down first in the last 48 before giving birth, but well you better hope its not holding out for that long.

She can be 2 cm dilated for several weeks so try not to get too anxious (yeah right, I know

). I was 4 cm for a week with my last one until I told my doctor to just scrape my membranes so I would just go into labor.

With my first pregnancy, when I started having minor contractions (like really minor, many hours to go) I made the mistake of telling my husband who rushed home from work because he was so anxious. It was like another 28 hours or something until the baby was born.

Backstory: Pregnancy messed with hormones and medication = 5 months in mental ward.
Update: She has had full recovery for past 8 weeks. Baby is healthy. All is well.

That's good to hear Sacel, happy everything is going well now. That must have been some insanely tough stuff to be going through. How old is your little one?

So.....they really cant figure out why I keep coming back with protein in my urine. Its been there since 20 weeks, its climbing, I've done a few 24 hour catches, several rounds of blood work.....but I have minimal (until today) swelling, I'm still not progressed at all (kids not engaged at all, I'm still not dilated, not effaced more than 20%), and my blood pressures holding out like a rock star.

So as I've mentioned based on the two early ultrasounds we've been treating my due date as more of a range - going by last period its the 13th but going by the U/S' it was around the 18th. Last Friday doc said that she considers me at high risk for one of those rapid onsets of pre-eclampsia and she will not be letting me go past my due date.....the 7/13 one. So induction has been scheduled for 7/12 - I go in 7/11 at night. I've been having contractions in the afternoons for a few days now - today was particularly intense but nothing timeable/not labor related/nothing I couldn't walk off (as uncomfortable as walking is......fuck stairs so much too. seriously. fuck stairs).

Last weekend as DINKS is this weekend...4th of July weekend ironically. We've been celebrating a bit with doing things we know we won't be able to do. My last day at work is tomorrow - don't go back until 1 October.

I originally thought we were going to see how far progressed I was at my 7/8 appointment Monday to schedule the induction....got the phone call yesterday that was like nope here's your reservation. I started crying on the phone. No clue why. I'm not afraid of the pain or anything...just unexpected. Probably hormones. Very weird feeling.

After I deliver if the protein doesn't go away they want me to see a nephrologist.

I'm sure they told you this, but just having protein in your urine isn't necessarily dangerous for you or the baby, it's just 1 of the 3 or 4 indicators for potential pre-eclampsia, as long as the other symptoms aren't showing up (high blood pressure, vision/headache problems, or undersized fetus) it's probably just a weird quirk of your body set off by pregnancy. Watch that blood pressure closely though, watch for unusual swelling in your feet or unusual headaches, pre-eclampsia can come on crazy fast and with a vengeance. My wife went from 100% healthy at her 28 week checkup, to going in for her 30 week checkup, getting admitted to the hospital an hour later, and having a baby 3 days after that. She never once felt bad or anything. Shit can escalate fast.

At this point though, you're so close to your due date that I'm sure you're fine. If there was even an ounce of doubt that there were any issues, your doctor would just go ahead and induce you at this point, your baby is fully developed, it wouldn't harm anything. There must be a very, very, miniscule chance of anything out of the ordinary, they definitely always err on the side of caution.
