I've heard by this point in the server's life a million+ character names have been taken. Do the admins do anything to remove name squatters or allow you to have a name from an account that's been inactive for a year+?
Have they said anything about releasing a new P1999 server to start new on some time in the future?

Yes, it is the best. A lot of shady shit has gone on in the history of the server but Daybreak unexpectedly granting the server official recognition was an unexpected event that changed everything. A former guide posted skype logs showing that a former GM made $10k selling items off banned characters. With Daybreak giving Project 1999 official status as a fan project, you can expect security to be way tighter and incidents like this to be fewer because they don't want to do anything to risk that relationship with the IP's owners.

And yes, project lead Nilbog recently posted that there are still plans for a new blue server once Velious is complete but they are several patches away from that so maybe next year some time? In the meantime blue is fun to level up on due to high pop, just don't have high expectations about the raid scene if you make it that far.

Yeah, P99 raid scene is fucking aids. P99 is like an amazing 5 course meal that ends in a literal shit sundae desert.

So you're screwed unless you happen to know whoever has the name you're after? Any chance the admins would give you the email address of the person's account to see if you could talk with them and see if they'd delete it?

Allowing name squatters to stay forever seems bad for the long-term server health, but so does the end-game raid scene from how you guys described. As much as I hate instances, I feel like letting each player have a crack at each boss once a week or so would be a good way to do it.

Check out Project 2002 if you want to play on a server with an actual future, and one that isn't run by horrible people who break the rules they expect everyone else to follow on a daily basis (RMT, doxing, guild favoritism for Sirken's friends, etc...) P2002 goes to Luclin and PoP, but you can still use the classic models.

Switching clients to Titanium very soon, so it will be much much easier to switch from p99 for anyone who is tired of p99's corruption, stagnation, and completely ruined economy.

Neg... You just have to donate. I'm pretty sure you could donate enough, attract attention, and get preferential treatment. Plenty of source accounts of this happening on the box. They might be more prudish nowadays after all the scandals and DBGs endorsement.

p2002 is an anti-social boxing haven. If you're into solo 3-boxing to 60, then more boxing for raids, check it out.

All emu servers are bad. P99 is a shame because 1-50 is fun like old eq was. But after 50 it becomes a raid focused game and the raid scene is a shitshow. And all the other emu servers are more or less the same, but without the fun 1-50 part.
