not a fan of what I see.

however, the pg12 vs R is not a big deal, imho.
ratings have progressed. Robocops original R would be pg-13 by todays standards. culture of violence and all.
HEY GENERIC_SCIFI_COP, TAKE THIS AND STICK IT UP YOUR PG-13 ASS

Have any of you watched the old Robocop recently? Honestly in a lot of ways it hasn't aged particularly well compared to other sweet movies from around then. That said this particular movie looks like complete shit.

just watched it and its aging just fine. in fact, i can appreciate it more than a modern movie because of their use of practical effects and squibs instead of CGI blood.

That whole thing about Detroit going backrupt and being sold to a corporation is totally unrealistic though.

...oh wait.

What made the first movie good was the twisted parts of Murphy's death and revival as Robocop. He was dead, everyone thought he was dead, and life went on without him. Then everything just gets put out there as one big Frankenstein situation.
I just re-watched the movie after seeing the trailer and pretty much this.

The technical aspects don't hold up that well of course (some special effects, acting, camera work, etc) but the core of the movie is archetypal and holds up extremely well. Loss, death, friendship, betrayal, rebirth, the nature of a soul, what makes us human, and so on. On top of that it has excellent social commentary that sadly is even more poignant 25 years later.

How the hell do you have a story arc where a person has their humanity stripped from them and rediscovers it if they never lose it in the first place? I mean, it is the emotional center of the whole movie. You figuratively (and literally) see it all through Murphy's eyes and go on the journey with him. The movie, for all its cheesiness pulls this off the emotional aspect incredibly well, making you feel what he feels.Thatis why you care, andthatis why it holds up, andthatis what makes the movie a classic.

I also wanted to add that I too fucking hate most CGI. It is way overused and usually looks like crap.

I don't care what everyone says, Avatar looked like plastic shit and the entire thing was offensive to my eyes.Planet Earthlooks orders of magnitude better in every way and there wasn't a CGI artist within a thousand miles of that project. Practical effects are the way to go asThe Dark Knightproved. The most thrilling and climactic scene in that movie was done almost entirely with practical effects.

Looks sharp as fuck, but I agree that the change in focus on the story seems poorly thought out.

Blazing Saddles is from 1974 and Animaniacs is from 1993. Your teenage years are extensive.

Pretty sure Godfather is as untouchable as it gets and will never get a remake, the same way noone will touch something like Citizen Kane or 2001, and to me Apocolypse now falls into the same category. Really the only ones I see them remaking is maybe Running Man but seems unlikely and Gremlins which could happen I suppose. I think Scott wants to do something with Blade Runner but i think it would be more of a sequel/prequel and not a reboot. The rest really are not candidates for remakes, Mel Brooks got away with a lot of things making his movies that they just can't do anymore.

Bloody Disgusting - Exclusive: 'Gremlins' Reboot Has Seth Grahame-Smith Snacking After Midnight!

Here's a late snack after midnight that will turn you into an angry little creature.

Bloody Disgusting has exclusively learned that Warner Bros. is officially moving ahead with a remake of Amblin's 1984 Gremlins, instead of the long gestured sequel.

While a hunt is on for a director, Seth Grahame-Smith has been tapped to produce alongside David Katzenberg. Smith wrote Dark Shadows for Tim Burton, and recently completed his draft for the studio's next Beetlejuice. He also penned Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter for Fox.

The original holiday classic was directed by Joe Dante and followed a boy, played by Zach Galligan, who inadvertently breaks 3 important rules concerning his new pet Mogwai and unleashes a horde of malevolent mischievous monsters on a small town.

No word if Smith will also write this new take on the Steven Spielberg-produced Gremlins.
