I think the biggest issue is I want procedural content, more varied roguelike progression and meaningful gameplay loop. Right now most of these you just level up your tree, then build 1-2 working things per character each time and just play same maps over and over, for most of them.
Brotato will not hit most of those marks. What you're describing seems much closer to a AAA title for a market still firmly in indie land.

I think Rogue Genesia might be the closest thing the genre has to something like that.

I played the demo its ok. It's pretty basic so I wouldn't call it like D4 other than production quality.
Yea I only meant it reminded me of D3/4 graphic wise.

Still lacking content I guess? I love these games on the Steam Deck so might check it out. Was holding out on Death Must Die forever, not sure where that game is now with content.

Yea I mean it's just the same type of melee focused VS clone, but 3d and looks better. I found it pretty boring compared to other titles that have actually added other systems and gameplay modes, but maybe they added more since the demo.

Yeah I have been playing this but it isn't grabbing me really. Looks amazing though.

You know what has grabbed me more than that one? A fucking playtest version of another one, Demon Hunt.

Other than the possibly asset enemies being maybe demonic, I have no idea why this is called Demon Hunt because you're a fucking robot. But, it is much more engaging so far than Jotunnslayer. Solid weapon variety, better feeling of "power" even at lower levels. It is extremely limited in variety right now, as it is just a playtest, but it can hopefully only get better from here.

If you click the button to request access to the playtest, it auto approves you immediately, so don't let that deter you. The upgrade stuff is not explained well and isn't great right now, but it isn't hard to figure out and like I said, it immediately holds my interest more than the game I actually paid for!

Death Must Die is solid but still developing, somewhat slowly. They have a new class coming soon(tm).

It has 2 levels and like 6 or 7 classes currently. Each class has a talent tree that you can put a max of 36 points in (you get the points by killing stage bosses). Each class also has gear. The abilities are the same for everyone except talent tree unique abilities.

I've maxed every class, all mythic gear, and beat each stage at +30. You can go very high difficulty wise (+100?) But the gear doesn't get any better.

Definitely a fun one for the genre and I look forward to content updates.

This one has been linked before but doing it again because I loaded it up today for the first time in awhile. Steadily going through these games and getting 100% achievements.

Looks like it had an update that, at a minimum, made the UI better. Can't beat the price and it's a good VS-like with lots to unlock.

Saw Steelmage playing this. Released January 21st?

D4 Roguelike?

I liked the demo enough to try it once I get back into them.

I think it got mentioned on here earlier, but if you wanted old-school D1/2 vibes, there is also Halls of Torment:

Is that a VS-like? Cause $25 is fucking ridiculous for the genre if so.

That was on my wishlist, but I watched a stream of it tonight and I think I'm going to pass. It seems very formulaic going from square room to square room.

This is pretty good. It has equipment, some crafting, skill trees, upgrades. Not bad for play test, look forward to seeing what happens with it.

Not sure it entirely belongs in the VS genre thread, but it's close. But this is free for now, and i got sucked into it for a good weekend so far. There's a demo and a prolog atm. I think they're winding one down soonish? Full release coming in the spring.

Yeah I don't like what that says about the state of the game industry when the first and arguably one of the best games in the genre was $3 in early access and usually $4 on sale.

I saw a brief mention of it elsewhere and yeah, they made it seem to be more of a Hade-like instead.
